Rail operations in the Zone includes the rake availability, allocation, placement, loading and movement from the Plants in the Zone on one side and from the receiving depot includes timely placement and release of the rake.

There is a very high demand for the rakes and seasonal priorities due to fertilizers, coal, imports, food grain movement directly impacts the availability of the rake thus capacity utilisation. The liasoning with the railway officials at various levels of hierarchy is required to ensure timely availability of the rake. Individual responsible for rail operations in the zone facilitates and ensures that each Plant under the zone receives the rake in line with the S&OP plan.

Rail Operations incharge monitors the rake availability in the Division/Zone and in case of crisis coordinates with senior railway officials for rake availability or through ZLH/FH approaches the Railway Board for rake allocation.

Other key role of Rail operations Incharge is educating the team on the railway policies, guiding and evaluating with rail operations incharge at Plant and RLH on operational issues and decision on participation under discount policies and maximization of benefits under each scheme participated. Rail Operations Incharge ensures proper documentation, submission of the railway claims and perusal with officials for faster processing of the submissions made.

Rail operations incharge evaluates the rake availability and with changing railway guidelines triggers the Plant for loading of new type of rakes that will be made available from the railways like N Box, BCN HL etc to protect the rail coefficient. He identifies and facilitates up-gradation of the rail loading infrastructure at each Plant thus ensuring the Plant is the Most preferred customer in the cluster through excellent Personnel relations, compliances to operational and commercial guidelines and developing loading flexibility for each type of rake with constant efficiency improvements Job Challenges:

1.Railways a)The challenge lies in positioning the unit as a most preferred unit thus ensuring rake availability as per requirement for capacity utilization inspite of very high loading time in many plants due to infrastructure bottlenecks as compared to cluster units

b)Maintaining excellent relations across various railway functions and hierarchy

c)Updation on railway rules and aligning standard operating practices accordingly

d)Identification of the most appropriate incentive policy for the unit and maximization of gains from the policies
