Senior Power BI Engineer

About the RoleThe Power BI Engineer will be responsible for building insightful Power BI reports that transform assessment data into actionable intelligence for both internal teams and external clients. Working with data from Talogy's Talent Measurement platform – a suite of applications that our clients use to manage their hiring process and deliver online assessments – you'll create visualizations that bring clarity to complex assessment results. We work hard together to deliver solutions we can feel proud of, yet also joke around and laugh with each other.Who we are looking forSomeone looking to develop their skills in a variety of technical disciplines, requiring an analytical thinker who pays significant attention to detail in their work.A professional who will spend most of their time designing, creating, improving, and deploying Power BI ReportsShould have a high degree of intellectual curiosity; constantly thinking about how we can improve our processes and produce excellent, high-quality analytics solutions for our customers.An engineer with a passion for creating excellent reporting and analytical solutions and a willingness to hold both yourself and your team accountable for delivering them.A thirst for learning – you are driven to stay on top of developments in Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and visualisation technologies.Role ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards that provide actionable insights from assessment dataWork with data provided by Talogy’s established ETL processes and other data sourcesCreate and optimize data models within Power BI to ensure reports are accurate and performantApply innovative visualization techniques to clearly communicate assessment analyticsDeploy and maintain Power BI reports in a Microsoft Fabric environmentCollaborate with product management to prioritize and plan necessary delivery, design improvements, and performance.Collaborate with the product team and development community of practice to review and discuss new analytics and reporting technologies.Work with subject matter experts to understand data context and reporting requirementsMaintain technical documentation and source control related to project design and implementation.Knowledge, Skills, and Experience RequirementsBachelor’s degree in computer science, analytics, or a related field or related work experience.Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with Power BI and Power Query with databases and loading from files in Azure and SharePoint.Experience in consuming data from various sources, including SQL databases, Azure storage, and SharePointStrong DAX skills with the ability to write complex calculations, including statistical operations and ranking functionsExcellent understanding of data modelling, including star and snowflake schema, and use of fact and dimension tables.Demonstrable experience implementing row-level security and dynamic row-level security in Power BI reportsExperience with Power BI report performance optimization techniquesFamiliarity with Microsoft Fabric and Power BI deployment processesPractical experience with Azure SQL (or similar databases) for data exploration and validationExperience with Power BI Desktop and Power BI ServiceExcellent communication skills, both verbal and written.Excellent numerical skills, including some knowledge of statisticsUnderstanding of data protection principlesComfortable working with staff at all levels.Ability to self-organise, prioritize, and track tasks.Teamwork and collaboration – be willing to share your thoughts and seek ideas and feedback from others in return.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience in using Python or R for analysis and incorporating into Power BI visualisations.Familiarity with advanced charting technologies such as Deneb, SVG, or D3.js is ideal.Familiarity with assessment data and psychometric principlesExperience with Azure is a plus.Experience with Agile development practices (Scrum or Kanban) is a plus.
