Role Description

We are seeking a full time on-site highly skilled and detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning, collecting, analyzing, and reporting on the costs associated with the company's operations and production processes. The role involves establishing and maintaining an effective cost accounting system, monitoring variances, and providing valuable insights to support strategic decision-making. This is a critical position for ensuring cost efficiency, improving profitability, and maintaining accurate financial records.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the cost accounting system, procedures, and policies to ensure efficient data collection and accurate cost reporting.
  • Ensure that the cost accounting records are accurate and up-to-date, and reconcile cost discrepancies.
  • Assist in preparing budgets and forecasts by providing relevant cost analysis and reports.
  • Work with the operations and production teams to develop accurate budgets for labor, materials, and overhead costs.
  • Analyze production and operating costs to ensure alignment with budgets and forecasts.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on actual vs. standard costs, identifying variances and the reasons behind them.
  • Prepare detailed reports on cost and financial performance for management, highlighting opportunities for cost reduction or efficiency improvements.
  • Maintain and update inventory records, ensuring accurate costing and valuation of inventory in line with company policy and accounting standards.
  • Perform regular physical inventory counts and reconcile records.
  • Analyze cost variances such as purchase price variance, labor efficiency variance, and material usage variance.
  • Work closely with production and operations teams to investigate root causes of variances and recommend corrective actions.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to control and reduce costs within the company.
  • Collaborate with different departments to implement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining quality and efficiency.
  • Support the pricing team by providing accurate cost information and evaluating the impact of pricing decisions on profitability.
  • Assist in setting and adjusting product pricing based on cost analysis and market conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with local accounting regulations, tax laws, and internal policies.
  • Assist with internal and external audits related to costing and financial records.
  • Ensure that all processes comply with GAAP, IFRS, or any other relevant accounting standards.
  • Continuously seek to improve cost accounting and control processes by recommending automation, simplification, or optimization methods.


Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of experience in cost accounting, financial analysis, and budgeting, preferably in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, cost accounting standards, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in financial software and advanced knowledge of MS Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros) and other analytical tools.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Time management skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
  • Professional certification such as CMA or CPA is a plus (preferred)
