Visual Director Job DescriptionThe Visual Director plays a pivotal role in creating the visual identity of games, overseeing a team of artists and ensuring timely delivery. Key responsibilities include leading the development of high-quality visual elements, concept art, mood boards, key frames, style frames, and reference guides.A successful Visual Director will be responsible for defining and owning the art vision, style guides, and visual identity for the game(s). They will lead, mentor, and manage a team of artists (2D, VFX, UI/UX) – hiring, performance reviews, training.Key skills required for this role include:Art direction: Contribute to the creation of 2D art through hands-on tasks, along with providing art direction.Team management: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of artists (2D, VFX, UI/UX).Project management: Oversee all art production pipelines, scheduling, and task distribution to ensure timely delivery.Collaboration: Collaborate with game designers, engineers, and product managers to align art with mechanics, UX, monetization, and performance budgets.Quality assurance: Review and approve art assets (character models, environments, props, animations, UI, effects) to maintain quality, consistency & technical feasibility.Innovation: Push visual innovation: explore new techniques, shaders, workflows, effects, rendering styles.Platform optimization: Ensure assets adhere to platform constraints (iOS / Android / different hardware tiers).Presentation: Drive creation of presentation and marketing materials to communicate the artistic vision to stakeholders and external partners.Documentation: Maintain version control and art documentation.This role requires someone who is passionate about creating engaging visuals and driving creative teams forward.
