Bengaluru, Karnataka, India A-THON Full time

Job Title: Homologation Specialist – N1 Category with G Category Expertise

Job Title: Homologation Specialist – N1 Category with G Category Expertise

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Homologation Specialist to lead the certification and compliance process for A-THON's off-road mobility platforms under the N1 category with specific knowledge of G category requirements. The role involves managing end-to-end homologation as per CMVR Rules and AIS Standards, coordinating with testing agencies such as ARAI, ICAT, and other designated authorities, and ensuring that our vehicles meet all regulatory, safety, and performance requirements for both domestic and potential export markets.

Special Priority

  • Mandatory Expertise: Candidates must have hands-on experience in successfully homologating vehicles under the N1 category (Light Goods Vehicles), with an added advantage for those with G category (off-road capable) certification expertise.
  • Agency Network: Professionals with direct working relationships at ARAI, ICAT, VRDE, or CIRT will be strongly preferred.
  • On-Road & Off-Road Certification: Experience in both on-road and off-road vehicle certification is highly desirable, with the highest priority given to those who have led the certification of vehicles from prototype to final type approval.
  • Problem-Solving Expertise: Creative, hands-on individuals with a proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and compliance challenges in the field will be highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regulatory Compliance & Interpretation
    • Ensure all vehicles comply with CMVR, AIS, and BIS standards applicable to A1 (Agricultural Tractor), N1 (Light Goods Vehicle), and N1G (Off-road Light Goods Vehicle) Rankings.
    • Possess in-depth knowledge of category-specific regulatory requirements, including dimensional, mass, braking, lighting, emissions, safety and stability.
    • Prepare and validate comprehensive Type Approval Certificate (TAC) documentation packages for each category, ensuring accuracy and completeness before submission to certification agencies.
    • Continuously monitor changes to Indian and international regulations, interpreting updates and advising product engineering teams to maintain compliance without production delays.
      • Certification & Liaison
        • Lead the end-to-end TAC acquisition process with recognized testing and certification bodies such as ARAI, ICAT, VRDE, and CIRT - from initial application through test scheduling, evaluation, and final certificate issuance.
        • Coordinate test slot bookings, ensure test readiness, and resolve technical queries raised by agencies promptly.
        • Maintain strong working relationships with certifying authorities to minimize lead times and avoid bottlenecks while ensuring 100% compliance.
        • Negotiate and document mutual understandings with agencies regarding any special test conditions for A1, N1, and N1G vehicles, including off-road performance criteria for N1G classification.
          • Testing Oversight
            • Supervise pre-certification internal validation for all relevant parameters — including on-road, off-road, emissions (Bharat Stage), safety, stability, braking, lighting, and durability — ensuring compliance before official agency testing.
            • Oversee official TAC certification tests for all applicable categories, ensuring prototypes meet or exceed agency expectations.
            • Analyse test results (both internal and agency-issued), provide detailed reports, recommend corrective actions, and manage re-tests if necessary.
            • Maintain technical oversight of off-road capability validation for N1G and agricultural field performance testing for A1 category vehicles.
              • Documentation & Change Management
              • Maintain meticulous TAC records, homologation files, test reports, and correspondence with certifying agencies for each category of vehicle.
              • Implement a strict change control process to ensure that any component or design updates during production do not invalidate existing TAC approvals.
              • Track TAC expiry dates and manage renewal or re-certification processes as mandated by authorities.
              • Ensure that variant approvals and extensions of TAC are systematically documented and applied without disrupting production or delivery schedules.

Key Performance Metrics (KPMs)

  • Certification Lead Time: From prototype readiness to type approval issuance.
  • First-Time Pass Rate: Percentage of tests cleared in the first attempt.
  • Regulatory Responsiveness: Speed of adapting to CMVR/AIS changes.
  • Documentation Accuracy: Zero non-compliance due to paperwork errors.
  • Testing Efficiency: Minimum downtime and re-testing requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Automobile, Mechanical, or Production Engineering (master's preferred).
  • Minimum 10 years of direct homologation experience, with at least 5 years focused on N1 category certification.
  • Strong working knowledge of CMVR, AIS, and BIS automotive regulations.
  • Proven expertise in G category (off-road capable) certification is a strong advantage.
  • Demonstrated success in liaising with ARAI, ICAT, or equivalent certification agencies.
  • Familiarity with off-road agricultural and defense mobility platforms is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of domestic and export compliance requirements.
