This role requires a strong understanding of database systems, software development methodologies, and data governance principles.Key ResponsibilitiesDatabase Architecture & Design:Define database models, schemas, and structures for applications to ensure scalability, performance, and security.Evaluate and choose the right database technologies to meet business needs.Performance & Optimisation:Monitor system performance (queries, indexes, workloads) and optimize queries, indexing strategies, and storage to ensure high availability and low latency.Develop and implement data analytics solutions to drive business decisions.Database Operations & Maintenance:Oversee backups, restores, patching, replication, failover strategies to ensure business continuity.Manage data migrations and upgrades to minimize downtime.Data Governance & Security:Implement access control, encryption, and compliance standards to protect sensitive data.Ensure data integrity, consistency, and auditability through regular audits and quality checks.Leadership & Coordination:Lead a team of DBAs, data engineers, or developers to achieve project goals.Collaborate with application architects, project managers, and other technical leads to ensure seamless integration.Cloud & Modernisation:Manage cloud database services and plan database modernisation efforts (e.g., migrating from on-prem to cloud).Oversee adoption of managed services, automation, and IaC (Infrastructure as Code) to improve efficiency.
