Job Description:The role of Snowflake Administrator involves overseeing the management, optimization and security of a company's Snowflake data platform.Responsibilities include managing and administering the full Snowflake environment, including warehouses, databases, schemas, stages, file formats and pipes.Resource monitoring, virtual warehouse sizing and performance configuration are also key aspects of this role.The administrator will oversee account-level settings, parameter configurations and global policies to ensure secure access controls.Snowflake Platform Administration:This includes creating, modifying and managing users, roles and permissions in accordance with Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) best practices.Implementing and maintaining secure access controls aligned with data governance policies is crucial.Audit access privileges regularly to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.Security & Governance:Key responsibilities include implementing Snowflake security features such as masking policies, row-access policies, encryption, OAuth, Single Sign-On (SSO) and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).Ensure compliance with industry security standards and monitor platform usage for suspicious or unauthorized activities.Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement robust security protocols.Performance Optimization:Monitor query performance and troubleshoot slow-running queries to improve overall system efficiency.Optimize virtual warehouse sizes, auto-suspend and auto-resume settings to minimize costs and maximize productivity.Provide recommendations for schema improvements, clustering keys, data organization and partitioning to enhance query performance.Data Pipeline Support:Support data engineers in setting up Snowpipe configurations, Streams and Tasks, internal and external stages, ETL/ELT integrations and ingestion frameworks.Collaborate to resolve load failures and monitor data flow health.Work closely with cross-functional teams to design and implement data pipelines that meet business requirements.Cost Management:Track and optimize compute and storage costs through regular monitoring and analysis.Develop and implement usage monitoring dashboards and alerts to ensure cost control.Provide periodic cost reports and actionable recommendations to leadership.Maintenance & Monitoring:Perform daily monitoring of Snowflake logs, warehouse consumption and system health to identify potential issues.Troubleshoot operational issues and collaborate with the engineering team to resolve complex problems.Manage updates, patches and Snowflake release assessments to ensure systems remain current and secure.Documentation & Process Management:Develop and maintain documentation of platform configurations, standards and processes.Create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for user management, cost controls, access requests and query optimization.Train internal teams and support data enablement initiatives to drive business growth.Collaboration:Collaborate with BI/Analytics, Data Engineering, DevOps and IT Security teams to design and implement scalable data platforms.Participate in architecture discussions to inform data strategy and drive business outcomes.Provide technical guidance on Snowflake best practices to ongoing and new projects.Keywords: Snowflake
