The Head of Logistics and Planning for the tyre manufacturing industry will oversee the end-to-end logistics, supply chain planning, and inventory management functions. This role is critical in ensuring the timely and cost-effective flow of raw materials, components, and finished tyres across the supply chain, from procurement through to customer delivery. The Head of Logistics and Planning will drive strategic planning, optimize production schedules, manage inventory, and coordinate logistics operations, focusing on achieving cost efficiency and enhancing customer satisfaction. This role requires strong expertise in the tyre or automotive industry and the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives to improve supply chain responsiveness and resilience.

2 Key Responsibilities:

  • Production Planning & Demand Forecasting:
  • Develop demand forecasts based on sales projections and market trends, aligning production schedules to meet demand fluctuations.
  • Collaborate closely with production, sales, and procurement teams to create an optimized production plan for tyres that balances supply with demand.
  • Implement demand planning and inventory control practices to ensure availability of tyres while minimizing excess stock.
  • Raw Material & Component Inventory Management:
  • Ensure consistent availability of raw materials (rubber, steel, fabric, chemicals) and components required for tyre manufacturing, working closely with procurement.
  • Develop inventory policies to maintain optimal stock levels and avoid stockouts or overstocking, aligning with production needs.
  • Conduct regular stock audits and implement controls to monitor the accuracy of inventory records, prevent material shortages, and optimize storage.
  • Logistics & Transportation Management:
  • Oversee logistics and transportation of raw materials to the plant and finished tyres to distribution centers or customers, optimizing routes and reducing transit times.
  • Develop relationships with logistics providers, including carriers and 3PL partners, to negotiate favorable rates and improve service levels.
  • Implement efficient fleet management and route optimization practices, minimizing transportation costs and ensuring timely deliveries.
  • Warehouse & Storage Operations:
  • Manage warehouse and storage facilities, ensuring that raw materials, components, and finished tyres are stored according to safety and quality standards.
  • Implement efficient warehousing processes, including FIFO (First In, First Out) for raw materials, and maintain high accuracy in inventory tracking.
  • Lead initiatives to improve space utilization, streamline warehouse operations, and reduce handling times.
  • Cost Control & Budget Management:
  • Prepare and manage budgets for logistics and planning, implementing cost-saving initiatives across procurement, storage, and transportation.
  • Track logistics expenses, identifying and rectifying cost overruns, and reporting to senior management on cost control measures.
  • Analyze total logistics costs and identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Process Improvement & Technology Implementation:
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives in logistics and planning to streamline operations, improve data accuracy, and enhance responsiveness.
  • Leverage ERP systems and supply chain planning software to improve demand forecasting, inventory management, and real-time tracking of materials.
  • Introduce automation and data-driven decision-making practices within logistics and planning functions to improve efficiency.
  • Supplier & Vendor Management:
  • Develop strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure timely delivery of high-quality raw materials for tyre production.
  • Conduct supplier performance evaluations, audits, and feedback sessions to ensure they meet quality, delivery, and service requirements.
  • Negotiate with vendors to secure competitive pricing, favorable terms, and reliable service, fostering long-term partnerships.
  • Customer Service & Order Fulfillment:
  • Oversee order fulfillment processes, ensuring that tyre deliveries meet customer timelines, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with sales and customer service teams to align logistics and planning with customer requirements and address any service issues.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction levels and implement initiatives to enhance delivery performance and service quality.


3 Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering, or a related field; a Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., APICS, CILT) is preferred.
  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in logistics, supply chain planning, or inventory management, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior role within the tyre or automotive industry.
  • Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of the tyre manufacturing process, materials management, warehousing, and transportation in the tyre or automotive sector.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven track record of leading and developing cross-functional teams, with strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage supplier relationships and interact effectively with stakeholders.
