Job Summary:

We seek a highly skilled and motivated Reverse Engineer & Embedded Systems Developer to join our dynamic R&D team. This role is unique in its focus on leveraging AI for both traditional reverse engineering and firmware customisation. You will be at the forefront of analysing, understanding, and enhancing our embedded systems' security by employing conventional techniques and cutting-edge AI tools. You will be responsible for reverse engineering Android applications and customising firmware on various embedded hardware platforms, focusing on identifying vulnerabilities and strengthening the security of our innovative products, using both hands-on and AI-powered methodologies.

Responsibilities:

• AI-Augmented Android App Reverse Engineering:
• Decompile, disassemble and analyse Android APK files using both traditional techniques (apktool, jadx, Ghidra) and AI-powered tools to understand their functionality, logic, and security mechanisms more effectively.
• Utilise AI-powered code analysis and similarity detection tools to accelerate the identification of API endpoints, authentication mechanisms, data structures, and cryptographic algorithms.
• Use AI for code interpretation, identifying potential vulnerabilities, extracting sensitive data, and thoroughly understanding system interactions by using machine learning for automated code analysis and vulnerability identification.
• Document findings focusing on security, including vulnerability reports, attack vector analysis, and recommendations for traditional and AI-based mitigation strategies.
• Modify application behaviour using techniques like patching, hooking with Frida, and AI-guided code injection to validate findings and explore AI-powered security mitigations.

Embedded Hardware Flashing and Security Integration:

• Thoroughly understand hardware design, bootloaders (U-Boot, etc.), partitioning schemes, and secure boot mechanisms for various embedded platforms (e.g., ARM Cortex-M, ESP32, and custom SoCs).
• Flash custom firmware images onto embedded devices using JTAG, serial (UART, SPI), and other relevant interfaces.
• Employ AI tools to identify and troubleshoot issues during the flashing process, including secure boot bypass scenarios and hardware incompatibility.
• Work hands-on with various hardware platforms, including ARM-based devices, microcontrollers, embedded SoCs, and custom-designed hardware.
• Develop and maintain efficient, robust flashing tools, scripts, and documentation, integrating AI-based automation where appropriate.

AI-Driven Firmware Customization & Security Enhancement:

• Modify existing firmware to add new features, customise user interfaces, improve performance, and strengthen security using both conventional and AI-based techniques.
• Using AI-assisted code generation, integrate custom software modules, drivers, cryptographic libraries, and security hardening patches into the firmware.
• Debug and test modified firmware rigorously on the target hardware with the aid of AI-powered diagnostic and testing frameworks, utilising logic analysers, oscilloscopes, and other debugging tools.
• Develop and deploy secure OTA (Over-The-Air) update mechanisms, ensuring integrity and confidentiality using AI for automated vulnerability assessments.

Collaboration and AI-Driven Security Documentation:

• Collaborate closely with software and hardware engineers, security specialists, and product teams, integrating both AI and conventional findings and modified code into our products.
• Document reverse engineering processes, security findings, proposed mitigations, and hardware modification steps, emphasising clear documentation using both natural language and AI-assisted code documentation tools.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and techniques in reverse engineering, embedded systems security, AI-powered code analysis, and threat intelligence, proactively exploring how AI can be leveraged for security.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
• Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience in reverse engineering Android applications and embedded systems, including development, and hardware flashing. Experience integrating or utilising AI models is a significant advantage.

Technical Skills:

• Reverse Engineering Expertise: Proficiency in using traditional reverse engineering tools (apktool, jadx, Ghidra, IDA Pro, Frida) and experience with AI-powered code analysis platforms.
• Android Architecture: Strong understanding of Android architecture, including Dalvik/ART, native libraries, system services, and how AI can be used to analyse these layers.
• Programming Languages: Expertise in Java, Kotlin, C/C++, assembly languages (ARM assembly preferred), and familiarity with Python for AI-related tasks.
• Networking & Communication Protocols: Knowledge of TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, QUIC, I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LoRa, and similar protocols, and how AI can be used to analyse their communications.
• Embedded Hardware & Flashing: Hands-on experience flashing firmware onto embedded devices using JTAG, serial interfaces, and with knowledge of flash validation (AI-guided ).
• Hardware Platforms: Experience working with various microcontrollers, SoCs, and ARM-based hardware platforms (e.g., STM32, ESP32) and understanding how to integrate AI capabilities into hardware.
• Bootloaders & Secure Boot: In-depth experience with bootloaders and secure boot processes, and applying AI to identify bypass scenarios and security enhancements.
• Debugging & Analysis: Proficient in using logic analysers, oscilloscopes, debuggers, and AI-powered code analysis tools for firmware analysis and hardware troubleshooting.
• AI/ML Fundamentals: Experience or interest in AI/ML for code analysis, vulnerability detection, and data processing.
• Linux Expertise: Strong understanding of the Linux operating system, command-line tools, and system programming concepts.
• Version Control: Proficiency with Git, Github, or other version control systems.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team, bringing both technical knowledge and integration skills to the table.

Bonus Points:

• Experience with security analysis and penetration testing of mobile applications and embedded systems, including vulnerability research focusing on how AI might be exploited.
• Contributions to open-source reverse engineering or embedded systems security projects, or AI-related code analysis projects.
• Expertise in cryptography, with a focus on applying AI to analyse or enhance cryptography implementations in embedded systems.
• Familiarity with secure coding practices, defensive programming, and AI-driven code analysis tools, with experience using AI to identify secure coding violations and propose solutions.
