Links Charitable Trust (Links) is hiring a School Manager / Medical Social Worker. Links is a grassroots, almost 100% volunteer-run, Bengaluru-based organization that seeks to address the medical and educational needs of India‘s underserved population of internal migrants. Links is addressing the United Nations Sustainability Goals for Health and Wellbeing and Quality Education for India‘s poorest children. Links works in Munnekollal, (Marathalli area) waste management site where most families are rag-pickers and most of the children have never attended formal schooling before.
Links mission is 2-fold:
1) To provide quality education to migrant children from below poverty level communities.
2) To provide access to much need, often life-saving medical treatment and advocacy for families throughout the process.
School Administrator / Medical Social Worker / Full-Time, Bengaluru, India. IMMEDIATE OPENING
Responsibilities:
The School Administrator / Medical Social Worker will manage the day-to-day running of the Links Educational Center (LEC). Hours are 8-5 pm, unless there is an active medical case (1-2 per month). Observe and manage the schedule and on-going activities of LEC. May infrequently substitute for a teacher if a regular teacher is absent. This role is the face of LEC greeting visitors, volunteers, new students, parents, and even government officials. Maintain positive and effective relationships with all stakeholders of LEC including students, parents, teachers, trustees, volunteers, government education officers and nearby government schools. Ensure clean, efficient running of the school. Organize teachers‘ vacation schedules, manage the school facility, keeping it clean and safe, and communicate with facility repair people. Will ‘own‘ the Links‘ Google Drive and be sure it‘s up-to-date and organized for both the education and medical piece of the NGO, including all active and past medical cases. Responsible for all LEC materials, including books, video cameras, computers, washrooms, etc. Weekly reports to Trustees and President about running of the school and any issues/concerns.
During an on-going medical case there will be frequent hospital visits with the child receiving treatment and his/her family. Links connects families with medical treatment, and supports and advocates for underserved families during the entire medical treatment process; from request for help and diagnosis, to appropriate hospital/doctor identification, to surgery fundraising, to attending all doctors appointments, to after surgery care and necessary follow up.
Salary 25k+ commensurate with experience.
Qualifications:
-Fluent in Hindi, Kannanda and English
-Excellent spoken and written communication skills
-Working knowledge of MS Office
-Independent thinker who takes initiative to get things done
-Master Degree preferred but not required
