Job Description:
For our Power BI-based projects, we require a software tester proficient with data analytics. The consultant would have the following key responsibilities:
- Review reporting requirements to define test scope
- Develop and execute manual and automated test cases for Power BI dashboards, DAX logic, and data pipelines
- Validate report data against source systems (e.g. using SQL queries, Power BI desktop etc.)
- Verify the correctness and consistency of KPIs, calculations, and visualizations
- Perform UI/UX testing on Power BI reports (layout, interactivity, filters)
- Participate in UAT sessions with business users and gather feedback
- Collaborate with developers to report, track, and resolve defects
- Test row-level security (RLS) and user access scenarios
- Create and maintain QA documentation and artefacts (test plans, test cases, checklists, data validation logs)
- Assist with maintaining Power BI documentation and artefacts (e.g. Reports mapping to source, DAX formulas definitions/logic)
- Contribute to test strategy improvements and QA best practices, especially relating to data analytics testing
- Specific experience and skills for Power BI tester
In addition to the above generic requirements, the following specific skills and experience are expected for a software tester for Power BI-based applications:
- Strong understanding of data testing and/or BI report validation
- Proficiency in SQL (joins, aggregations, data comparisons)
- Overall/basic understanding of Power BI Desktop, including data modeling and DAX
- Experience testing Power BI Service (publishing, RLS, refreshes)
- Familiarity with manual test case design and execution
- Ability to interpret and test business logic and KPIs
The software tester shall have the following essential and desirable experience and skills:
- A minimum of seven (7) years of experience using a disciplined approach for planning, designing, executing and reporting on software testing.
- A minimum of four (4) years of experience working in an Agile software development environment.
- A minimum of four (4) years of experience using Microsoft Azure DevOps or equivalent to support software testing;
- A minimum of three (3) years of automating test cases using tools like Selenium WebDriver(C#), JMeter, SoapUI, etc.
- Experience with several types of software testing (e.g. functional, performance, security, etc.);
- Hands-on working experience creating test cases, test plans, test reports;
- Experience in working in a small-sized software development team (2 to 4 persons) and working independently;
- A strong understanding of software architecture and network technologies that facilitates white-box testing, including security testing, will be considered an asset
- ISTQB (International Software Testing Qualifications Board) certification or equivalent will be considered an asset
Education:
- University degree in software engineering, computer science, or a related field (e.g., quality assurance or another technical discipline).
