Associate - Electrical Engineer (Solar + BESS)

Job Description

SunStripe is looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer with BESS & utility scale project experience to join our Design & Engineering team for Utility-Scale Solar PV & Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects.

The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of hands-on drafting experience, strong expertise in electrical layouts, schematics, and optimization, and exposure to the US, India or other overseas markets.

This role requires proficiency in CAD-based tools, an understanding of electrical system layouts, and the ability to optimize designs for efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Candidates must have detailed experience on Large ground mount projects. The candidate will be reporting to the Manager- Design & Engineering (Electrical).

Key Responsibilities:

1. Electrical Drafting & Design Development

- Prepare detailed electrical drawings, including single-line diagrams (SLDs),three-line diagrams, grounding layouts, and AC/DC wiring diagrams for solar PV and BESS projects for Utility Scale ground Mount Solar Project.
- Develop plant layouts, conduit/cable routing, substation layouts, and equipment arrangements.
- Good understanding of regulations, zoning and compliance requirements.
- Create as-built drawings, shop drawings, and IFC (Issued for Construction) drawings for solar + storage projects.
- Work closely with design engineers and project managers to ensure accuracy and compliance with specifications.

2. Solar PV & BESS System Optimization

- Optimize array layouts, inverter placement, electrical BOS (Balance of System) design, and cable schedules to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
- Use AI-driven tools and automation software to enhance design workflows and reduce manual drafting efforts.
- Ensure optimal land utilization and power evacuation strategies in collaboration with the engineering team.

3. CAD & Design Tools Proficiency

- Utilize AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical and other CAD tools for high-quality drawings.
- Work on GIS-based tools and electrical modelling software to enhance system design precision.
- Maintain drawing databases, version control, and documentation for all design files.

4. Collaboration & Cross-Functional Coordination

- Coordinate with structural, mechanical, and civil design teams to integrate electrical layouts with site plans.
- Work with procurement teams to ensure drawings align with vendor specifications and equipment compatibility.
- Provide technical drafting support for engineering teams working on interconnection, relay coordination, and power system studies.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

- 3-5 years of hands-on experience in electrical drafting for Utility-Scale Solar PV and BESS projects.
- Strong expertise in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, PVsyst, and similar CAD tools.
- Experience working with US utilities, developers, or other overseas solar markets is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with electrical BOS (Balance of System), high-voltage equipment layouts, and Single Line Diagram
- Good understanding of NEC, NFPA, IEEE, IEC, and UL standards for solar + storage systems.
- Ability to optimize electrical layouts for efficiency, cost reduction, and improved energy yield.
- Strong organizational skills with experience managing multiple projects and drawing versions.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

- Professional CAD Certification in AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical.
- Knowledge of GIS-based tools, SCADA system layouts, and power system simulation tools is a plus.
