Type Office Working Employment Type Permanent Posting Start Date 29 11 2025 Posting End Date Job Summary A database engineer is responsible for designing implementing and maintaining the databases that support an organization s operations This includes tasks such as designing and creating new databases optimizing and troubleshooting existing databases migrating the data one Database to another Oracle DB2 to Postgres and ensuring the security and availability of the data The candidate should have a strong technical background and experience with database management systems SQL and database design principles They should also have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to work well with cross-functional teams Key Responsibilities Key Roles and Responsibilities Designing implementing and maintaining databases to support an organization s operations Be involved in all stages of the software development lifecycle from design to development testing and deployment Ability to work in application build using Java Spring boot technologies Ability to work with database developers engineers and different operations and applications engineering teams to help them to identify analyze and resolve database performance issues Collaborate with software engineers and DevOps teams to design and implement technical designs and solutions Adhering to best practices in securely storing backing up and archiving data Documenting processes related to database design configuration and performance Keeping abreast of developments and best practices in database engineering Optimizing and troubleshooting existing databases to ensure they perform efficiently Ensuring the security and availability of the data stored in the databases Designing and implementing data backup and recovery procedures Collaborating with other teams such as developers and operations to ensure the databases meet the needs of the business Continuously researching and evaluating new database technologies and trends to recommend and implement improvements Develop and maintain documentation and standard operating procedures for database infrastructure and services Strong understanding of database management systems like MySQL PostgreSQL Oracle SQL Server MongoDB DB2 etc Strong understanding of SQL and experience with database design and optimization Strong understanding of database security and data encryption Strong understanding of database replication and high availability Strong understanding of backup and recovery disaster recovery procedures Strong understanding of cloud-based database services like RDS Aurora CosmosDB etc Strong communication and collaboration skills able to work with cross-functional teams Strong understanding of Linux Unix and Windows operating systems Familiarity with monitoring and performance tuning tools Strategy Awareness and understanding of the business strategy and model appropriate to the role Business Awareness and understanding of Retail business the wider business economic and market environment in which the Group operates Processes Awareness and understanding of Agile s w development process change and release management process Regulatory Business Conduct Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group s Values and Code of Conduct Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics including regulatory and business conduct across Standard Chartered Bank This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with in letter and spirit all applicable laws regulations guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct Effectively and collaboratively identify escalate mitigate and resolve risk conduct and compliance matters Qualifications 9 years of work experience in software development using Database technologies tools and Java J2EE Should have hands-on experience on Spring boot microservices In-depth knowledge of Structured Query Language SQL Java and Spring boot Extensive experience with database technologies and architecture Extensive experience in data migration between different databases Sound knowledge of best practices in database engineering and data security Thorough understanding of database performance monitoring and analysis tools Expertise in database server specification performance tuning analysis and optimization Strong Experience in database disaster recovery planning and recovery Experience with Oracle DB2 Postgres and or MongoDB desired Experience with AWS GCP Azure desired Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Exceptional problem-solving and critical thinking skills Team-player flexible and able to work in a fast-paced environment Skills and Experience API Microservices Container
