We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our team and help us to move the experimentation platform at Booking to the next level Your role is to enable your team and help each team member to achieve their goals You get things done via influence not authority You unlock the creativity of your team and inspire them to build the best for our customers You take full responsibility for your area As an Engineering Manager you are responsible for one or two engineering teams and the technology that the teams own You will not only work as a coach for your team members but also as a technical leader ensuring that the right technical decisions are made when building our product You will collaborate with colleagues in Amsterdam to achieve results the right way This will include other Engineering Managers Product Managers and Data Scientists Responsibilities Manage 1 or more teams of software data reliability engineers - between 5 and 10 people in total Create a culture of ownership and technical excellence leading by example Empower engineers to develop their careers by providing ad-hoc applicable coaching Help building and enriching an inclusive work environment comprised of people from diverse backgrounds Contribute to projects by guiding architectural discussions providing technical coaching to software engineers and occasionally getting hands-on with coding Champion engineering and operational excellence establishing metrics and processes to both supervise health and allow continuous improvement Provide technical guidance to both your team members and your project peers Drive team efforts to establish bottom-up projects and roadmaps supporting our vision Collaborate closely with the team in Amsterdam to drive the delivery of common goals Drive initiatives to reduce operational workload introduce monitoring at scale and improve debugging testing validation and data quality for production-ready data products Oversee infrastructure upgrades cloud migrations and cost optimization for data products while ensuring golden metrics and operational run metrics owned by the experimentation track are consistently delivered Qualifications At least 3 years of experience leading and managing a team of engineers in a fast-paced and complex environment 6 years of experience in software development with proficiency in one of the following languages Java Perl Python JavaScript NodeJS Bachelor s degree in Computer Science Computer or Electrical Engineering Mathematics or a related field or 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the specialty as equivalent A deep understanding of software development in a team and a track record of developing and shipping software Familiarity with agile best practices for the full software development life cycle such as coding standards code reviews and version control in Git Experience working with cloud technologies like AWS Docker and or Kubernetes Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and cooperate with people at all levels Experience in working on products with a large customer base and company wide impact Experience in designing and architecting APIs dealing with high traffic and security concerns Strong Coding System design skills with ability to get hands-on with your team if needed You are a humble and thoughtful technology leader you lead by example and gain your teammates respect through actions not the title Experience in managing platform teams related to data products is a plus Experience working with teams located in different timezones is a plus Experience with experimentation statistics and A B testing is a plus Pre-Employment Screening If your application is successful your personal data may be used for a pre-employment screening check by a third party as permitted by applicable law Depending on the vacancy and applicable law a pre-employment screening may include employment history education and other information such as media information that may be necessary for determining your qualifications and suitability for the position
