At Nielsen we believe that career growth is a partnership You ultimately own fuel and set the journey By joining our team of nearly 14 000 associates you will become part of a community that will help you to succeed We champion you because when you succeed we do too Embark on a new initiative explore a fresh approach and take license to think big so we can all continuously improve We enable your best to power our future ABOUT THIS JOBSoftware engineers strike a balance between precision and disruption between reliability and innovation Nielsen is a tech company backed by nearly a century of forward momentum to show the world what s next-and we couldn t do it without our engineers In Nielsen Media we are the market leader that drives content ratings across virtually all viewing platforms including local and national TV streaming digital advertising and more This role is in Media Platform Core Services We heavily leverage open source software and cloud technologies to build a single central platform for managing the entitlements to and delivery of Nielsen Media data to our clientsThe Lead Software Engineer is ultimately responsible for delivering technical solutions throughout a project s development life cycle from design through post-launch support This role is expected to coordinate support and work with multiple delocalized technical teams in multiple regions The Lead Software Engineer reports to the Sr Product Manager to ensure new product launches and existing deployments satisfy our internal and external clients RESPONSIBILITIES Develop and enrich our platform components by leveraging open source software drive modernization of core Data Management and Delivery systems Take point on Data Management and Delivery development team activities including solution design development and deployment while mentoring other platform team members to increase their technical and soft skills Use your knowledge of open source cloud particularly AWS and devops technologies to help architect new platform products for use across Nielsen s product portfolio Perform architectural reviews for critical business products to ensure they are properly built for reliability scalability and cost optimization Design and implement low-latency networking products Ensure the availability performance scalability and security of production systems Build automated tests monitoring and alerting mechanisms to help assure quality and stability of various services System troubleshooting and problem-solving across the platform Suggest and implement best practices and architecture improvements Implement and lead the team through best in class code automation strategies Drive better cost management through efficient utilization of compute and storage resources Document processes and maintain software development records A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOU You have a genuine passion for big data coding and absolutely love learning new technologies You don t just want to blindly use platforms and libraries instead you have a desire to tear them apart and figure out how they work inside You love scaling and optimizing and seeing just how far or how fast your projects can go You see all of the building blocks in the community as legos and want to use them to build innovative new solutions at a faster pace than ever QUALIFICATIONS Multiple years of experience in a DevOps role leading critical projects Intensive knowledge of most core DevOps concepts and tools spanning source control CI CD Infrastructure as Code monitoring alerting and logging Extensive proficiency with Java Python Scala and SQL this includes all aspects from development through to production build tools deployment tools deployment methods configuration strategies etc Deep knowledge of AWS Cloud Computing scalability and optimization Knowledge of orchestration frameworks e g Airflow and containerization e g Docker Kubernetes Experience with automation technologies such as Terraform Gitlab etc Experience with Big Data Hive Spark Trino etc is a plus Scrum Agile development experience Fluid in written and spoken English Must have a CAN-DO attitude ABOUT NIELSEN We re in tune with what the world is watching buying and everything in between If you can think of it we re measuring it We sift through the small stuff and piece together big pictures to provide a comprehensive understanding of what s happening now and what s coming next for our clients Today s data is tomorrow s marketplace revelation We like to be in the middle of the action That s why you can find us at work in over 100 countries From global industry leaders to small businesses consumer goods to media companies we work with them all We re bringing in data 24 7 and the possibilities are endless See what s next with us at Nielsen Nielsen
