A Day in the Life As a IT Test Automation Lead, you will play a pivotal role in advancing Medtronic's IT capabilities by leading the design, development, and execution of test automation strategies. You will partner with cross-functional teams to ensure scalable, reliable, and compliant testing solutions that enable the delivery of world-class digital services. This is a senior-level role requiring expert knowledge in automation frameworks, cloud-based testing, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and transitioning test strategies from on-premises to the cloud. With a combination of technical expertise, strategic vision, and strong leadership you will drive innovation and operational excellence in a regulated environment. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned: As the IT Test Automation Lead, you will: Strategic Leadership and Roadmap Development - Define and maintain a portfolio roadmap aligned with Medtronic's IT modernization strategy, ensuring digital solutions meet current and future business needs. - Lead the development of a long-term vision for test automation, aligning with organizational goals, KPIs, and technology strategies. - Drive innovation by identifying and integrating emerging technologies and expanding automation coverage across platforms and applications. - Collaborate with stakeholders to define testing priorities, timelines, and deliverables that support business objectives. Test Automation Strategy and Execution - Spearhead the design and implementation of reusable, modular, and scalable test automation frameworks, ensuring consistency and efficiency. - Develop and implement comprehensive test automation strategies for functional, regression, performance, and API testing. - Oversee the execution of automated test scripts across environments, ensuring maintainability, reliability, and alignment with Medtronic's quality standards. - Integrate test automation into CI/CD pipelines, enabling continuous testing and faster, high-quality releases. Compliance and Governance - Ensure test automation efforts adhere to Medtronic Software Compliance Methodology (MSCM) and regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485). - Define and enforce best practices for automation script development, including robust error handling, logging, and reporting mechanisms. - Conduct code reviews to ensure automated test scripts meet quality and compliance standards. - Promote the use of version control systems and other tools to manage test scripts and frameworks effectively. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement - Act as the primary point of contact for automation testing efforts, providing regular updates and addressing concerns from stakeholders. - Collaborate with product owners, developers, QA teams, and IT leadership to ensure test automation aligns with business and technical requirements. - Provide actionable insights from test results to inform decision-making, enhance product quality, and improve business outcomes. Team Development and Knowledge Sharing - Mentor and guide team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence in test automation. - Establish a community of practice for automation testing, sharing knowledge, tools, and best practices across teams. - Organize workshops, training sessions, and hackathons to promote innovation and skill development. - Stay updated on industry trends and bring innovative ideas to Medtronic's testing practices. Continuous Improvement and Innovation - Promote the adoption of modern testing methodologies such as Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) and Test-Driven Development (TDD). - Identify inefficiencies in current testing processes and champion automation solutions to improve productivity and quality. - Document lessons learned from automation initiatives to refine workflows and drive future improvements. Required Knowledge and Skills: To be considered for this role, you must have: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience). - 10+ years of experience in software testing, with a strong focus on test automation and leadership roles. - Proven expertise in designing and implementing scalable automation frameworks and driving test automation strategies. - Hands-on experience with test automation tools like Selenium and Tricentis Tosca, with a proven ability to optimize their use in complex environments. - Strong knowledge of functional, regression, performance, and API testing methodologies. - Experience integrating test automation into CI/CD pipelines within Agile and DevOps environments. - Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. - Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and inspire cross-functional teams and leaders at all levels. Nice to Have - Expertise in Medtronic Software Compliance Methodology (MSCM) and regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485). - Functional knowledge in device registration, warranty claims processing, and digital self-service, including e-commerce, service and repair, and product returns processes. - Experience with tools like Polarion and ALM for test management and documentation. - Experience with platforms including Mendix, webMethods, Kafka, AWS cloud, Hybris, SAP, and SAP cloud for commerce. - Familiarity with enterprise-scale IT systems in the medical device or healthcare industry. - ISTQB certification or equivalent.
