tough and challenging problems for our customers You ll be part of the Digital Intelligence team that is responsible for building real time and distributed software solutions The Staff Data Engineer is in an unique position to help transform the way people and freight are moved around the world As we work together you ll not only learn the sophisticated world of logistics and transportation but also get opportunities to expand your technical and leadership skills and build a strong career at Wabtec Location Bangalore India You will work on innovative railroad automation products - TripOptimizer and Locotrol XA rail yard monitoring product - MyRailYard and diagnostic product - PTC Analytics You will design and implement efficient solutions for data storage transformation and retrieval You will solve problems related to scaling and near real time response You have to build solutions to handle large volume of data You have the opportunity to learn about railroad domain and about how large railroad companies of the world manage the operations of freight trains Essential Responsibilities Architect design and implement scalable stable data storage and retrieval solution which supports large distributed systems and enables handling of large volume of data Ensure high standards of data integrity and security by upholding and implementing existing policies and procedures Review application design and implementation which is being executed by the scrum teams Drive the development by mentoring junior engineers Document the database design and maintain and update the ERD Collaborate with IT teams to ensure lifecycle management of all databases and backup infrastructure Monitor availability and performance of database systems Ensure that data restore recovery procedure including disaster recovery scenarios are tested Capable of multitasking and adapt to changing requirements and working with multiple teams Qualification Requirements BE BTech MTech in ECE Computer Science EEE IT or MCA 10 to 13 years of experience in designing and maintaining large database systems including database optimization and implementation of new database features upgrades for increases in performance Expert in Relational database technology preferably Oracle Postgres expert in management of database systems not limited to database design database performance optimization Develop highly available master-master master-slave operational and data warehouse databases Expert in SQL PLSQL designing indexing strategies and address performance issues Exeprienced in developing ETL dataflows using Pentaho Maintain ERD and all other relevant documents Experienced in building and implementing solutions on cloud preferably AWS Experienced in development with Agile methodology and working with scrum teams Good to have database administration experience Good to have experience in working with Unix systems and shell scripting Phenomenal to have Enthusiastically follows technology trends data architecture best practice and technologies while enjoying the challenge of solving complex problems Evangelizes best practices in data store design Understands key cross-functional concepts that impact the organization is aware of business priorities and organizational dynamics Understands the business impact of technology choices and is able to choose the most cost effective solution Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with senior leadership with confidence and clarity Excellent problem-solving skills Applies values policies
