Director of Engineering & India Engineering Site Lead

We are building a world-class hub for innovation at our Bengaluru office that is fully integrated with our global R&D organization. As the team grows, we are looking to hire a senior engineering leader that will also be the engineering site lead for India.

India Engineering Site Lead Responsibilities

As HubSpot&aposs most senior engineering leader in India, you will also serve as the India Site Lead, responsible for establishing and growing our new development center. This dual role combines technical leadership with site operations, requiring you to:

- Build and scale the India engineering organization from 10-15 engineers to 50+ within the first year
- Establish HubSpot&aposs engineering culture and practices in a new geography
- Partner with facilities, HR, and finance teams to ensure smooth site operations and growth planning
- Drive talent acquisition through university partnerships with premier institutions and industry recruiting
- Optimize cross-timezone collaboration between India and US teams
- Serve as the primary engineering voice for the India site in global leadership forums
- Build relationships with local technology ecosystem and establish HubSpot&aposs engineering brand in India

What You&aposll Do

As an engineering leader at HubSpot, you&aposll do many things many of which you likely already have experience executing. They are:

Technical Leadership

- Leading teams building innovative products and services that work with cloud providers and integrate third-party systems
- Collaborating with other engineering leaders on all matters that impact the Engineering team, including resourcing and building technology/product vision
- Pushing the team to build software that&aposs useful, usable, delightful, and solves real customer pain
- Working with vendors to explore third-party capabilities and secure contracts

People & Team Development

- Coaching and mentoring engineering teams, including code reviews, higher-level software design, and direct management
- Building a world-class engineering organization in India that matches HubSpot&aposs high bar for talent and culture
- Creating career development pathways for engineers in a new geography
- Establishing mentorship programs and technical excellence initiatives

India Site Operations

- Serving as the primary engineering leader and face of HubSpot engineering in India
- Partnering with global recruiting teams to build robust hiring pipelines and processes
- Establishing relationships with top engineering universities and technical communities
- Working with facilities teams to plan office expansion from initial setup to 50+ person capacity
- Implementing best practices for hybrid work management with 4-day in-office requirements
- Building bridges between India and US teams through effective communication and collaboration protocols
- Driving operational excellence in areas like employee onboarding, IT infrastructure, and workplace experience
- Creating a culture where both India and US team members feel equally valued and included

What We&aposre Looking For

- 15+ years of engineering experience with at least 5 years in senior engineering leadership roles
- Experience building and leading distributed systems and platforms
- Track record of scaling engineering organizations, ideally in a new geography or site
- Strong technical background in distributed systems
- Experience with cross-cultural team building and international operations
- Exceptional communication skills with ability to influence across all levels of the organization
- Business acumen to balance technical excellence with practical delivery
- Experience working with or in India&aposs technology ecosystem is highly preferred
- Comfort with ambiguity and excitement about building something from the ground up

Location

This role is based in our India office, Bengaluru with a requirement of 4 days per week in-office presence. As the India Site Lead, your presence is crucial for building culture, facilitating collaboration, and establishing HubSpot&aposs engineering presence in the region.
