About the role
The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a Programme Monitoring and Improvement Lead to lead efforts in developing, rollout, and ensuring quality assurance of programme and project monitoring and accountability efforts across GAIN's thematic, programming and geographical areas.
This position will provide strategic, technical and operational leadership to monitoring and accountability services for all programs and projects and the regular utilization of monitoring data to inform needed program and project improvements, as well as reporting on outcomes.
The role will also be responsible for the setting up of an effective accountability mechanism for the populations we work with.
This role will be offered on a Fixed Term Contract running until end of September 2027, subject to availability of funding and will be based in either one of our offices in Bangladesh, India, Uganda or Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities include
- Lead the development of procedures for programme and project monitoring (tools, processes for data collection, consolidation, and utilization), working with technical advisors from the thematic and KL team as well as project staff to ensure feasibility and relevance for programme models and drawing lessons from global best practices.
- Lead efforts to innovate the approaches taken in data collection and consolidation, particularly using digital tools and linking with existing GAIN programme and project management tools
- Oversee the quality assurance of all programme-monitoring related activities.
- Lead the development, training for and roll out of procedures and tools for capturing, managing and utilizing feedback from communities and programme participants ensuring both horizontal and vertical accountability.
- Ensure accessible feedback mechanisms that are low obstacle and accessible for communities and people we work with and for while ensuring a coordinated effort is in place to collect data properly and consistently across the organization, programs and projects in a timely fashion for both internal and external reports.
- Identify and lead opportunities to generate global public goods (e.g., tools, peer reviewed publications, and papers in GAIN paper series, among others), building on evidence of good practice in programme monitoring and GAIN's experience and evidence.
- Line management of the Programme Monitoring & Improvement advisors who provide support across GAIN's country portfolio and specific portfolios. Ensure a healthy working environment, guidance and support, training opportunities.
About you
The ideal candidate should have leadership experience in the development of programme and project monitoring and accountability overseeing multiple countries. You should have a track record of extracting key learnings from monitoring and their application to programme improvement combined with ability to develop and train staff on programme monitoring. Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills combined with the ability to present complex information to diverse audiences is required.
You should possess expertise in monitoring and accountability tools (including digital applications), their practical application across a project portfolio and quality assurance. Innovative thinking relating to data sources and technology solutions.
Excellent people and project management skills are required to succeed in this role combined with character, initiative and self-drive. Experience in research and/or impact evaluation or business analytics will be an asset.
