Job Description

Role Overview

A Zen Cart Developer plays a crucial role in developing and maintaining e-commerce websites using the Zen Cart platform. You will be responsible for creating and customizing online stores, ensuring optimal functionality, user experience, and performance. This role combines technical expertise with a strong understanding of e-commerce and customer needs.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and customize Zen Cart-based e-commerce websites according to client specifications and industry best practices
- Create and modify templates, themes, and layouts to enhance the website's aesthetics and user experience
- Integrate and customize Zen Cart plugins, modules, and extensions to add new features and functionality
- Ensure compatibility and smooth operation of third-party integrations, including payment gateways, shipping providers, and marketing tools
- Manage and maintain the database structure, ensuring data integrity and security
- Optimize database queries and website performance to ensure fast loading times and smooth operation
- Conduct thorough testing and debugging to identify and resolve issues, including compatibility problems, broken links, and performance bottlenecks
- Perform cross-browser and cross-device testing to ensure a consistent user experience
- Implement security measures to protect the website from threats and vulnerabilities
- Perform regular updates, patches, and maintenance tasks to keep the website running securely
- Optimize website content and structure for search engines (SEO) to improve visibility and rankings
- Implement SEO best practices, including metadata, URL structure, and sitemaps
- Monitor website performance, loading times, and user interactions, identifying and resolving issues
- Document code, configurations, and customizations for future reference and team collaboration
- Collaborate with clients and project managers to understand requirements and provide technical guidance and recommendations

Qualifications and Skills

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Proficiency in PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and AJAX
- Experience working with Zen Cart or similar e-commerce platforms
- Knowledge of web security best practices
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) is a plus
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines
