About The Role:

We are looking for a seasoned editorial professional to lead our night shift news desk, focusing on live coverage of US politics. This role involves overseeing a dynamic team of writers, editors, and social media executives to deliver timely, engaging, and high-quality news content. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of the US political landscape, outstanding editorial judgment, and a background in managing breaking news workflows.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead and manage the night shift editorial team during major US political developments, including live events, White House briefings, Capitol Hill updates, and breaking news.
- Monitor news wires, livestreams, press briefings, and social media for real-time updates and emerging trends.
- Identify compelling story angles, including viral moments and newsworthy soundbites.
- Assign, review, and edit stories while ensuring clarity, accuracy, and speed.
- Coordinate closely with the social media team to ensure prompt publishing and scheduling.
- Mentor team members and help maintain a high standard of editorial quality.

Requirements:

- Minimum 5 years of newsroom experience, with a strong focus on political or hard news coverage.
- Prior experience working with tight deadlines in a real-time news environment.
- Experience in managing or mentoring editorial teams (even in a limited capacity).
- Deep familiarity with the US political system, major political figures, and current affairs.
- Strong command of grammar, news structure, and fact-checking practices.
- Ability to multitask and manage a live news desk under pressure.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in a digital-first newsroom or online publishing environment.
- Familiarity with using CMS platforms, live news dashboards, and social media tools.
- Comfortable working independently in a remote team and collaborating across time zones.
