PKWARE is seeking a Mainframe Software Engineer with deep expertise in Java and C programming within IBM z/OS environments. You’ll design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade software solutions on mainframe systems, ensuring high performance, reliability, and security. Key Responsibilities - Develop, enhance, and maintain applications on IBM z/OS using C, Java, JCL, REXX, and related technologies. - Participate in the full SDLC: requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, and production support. - Optimize performance, troubleshoot defects, and ensure system reliability. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams (System Engineers, QA, DevOps, Business Stakeholders). - Maintain technical documentation, coding standards, and operational procedures. - Support legacy systems while contributing to modernization efforts. Required Qualifications - 5+ years of programming experience in: - C (on z/OS) - Java (on z/OS, including JZOS Toolkit) - Strong understanding of IBM z/OS architecture, USS, JCL, and mainframe workflows. - Expertise in JNI for bridging Java and C on z/OS. - Proficiency in unit testing, logging frameworks, and packaging deployable JARs. - Secure coding practices in C and Java for mainframe environments. - Familiarity with enterprise source control and CI/CD tools. Preferred Skills - Experience with CICS, DB2, IMS, or other enterprise middleware. - Knowledge of Zowe, z/OSMF, RESTful APIs, modernization/integration projects. - Familiarity with ICSF, RACF, Agile/Scrum, SMP/E packaging. - Exposure to SBOM generation and compliance standards (CycloneDX/SPDX). Education - Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, IT, or equivalent experience.
