About the role:

Samsara Technologies India Private Limiteds Quality Automation and Engineering (QAE) team uses test engineering, automation and data analysis skills to drive product quality so that our customers can realize the full benefits of our platform. To further the goal of quality we are seeking to invest in automation and strengthen our frameworks to further our goal of mobile and web automation. We are seeking a hands-on technical leader with a deep understanding of test automation frameworks, development tooling, and team management. The ideal candidate will drive the creation and implementation of scalable test automation strategies, ensuring we are building and are delivered with high quality and reliability by managing a small team of engineers.This key role will enable teams to ship high quality products, ship software updates to our customers faster, and facilitate quality investigations.

This role will only apply to India: This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days per week in our Bangalore office and 2 days working remotely. This position requires working hours in IST time zone.

In this role, you will:

- Champion automation frameworks and collaborate with engineering teams to design APIs that prioritize automation from the start, within a close-knit Firmware Quality.
- Partner with the Head of Quality Engineering and Automation to define quality goals, expand test coverage, and focus on automation first strategy.
- Design and maintain robust, scalable, and reusable automation test suites for iOS, Android, and web platforms using tools such as Appium Playwright or native frameworks.
- Write and maintain test automation code using modern programming languages like Java, JavaScript, Typescript or Python.
- Integrate and understand automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using systems like Buildkite, Jenkins for continuous validation.
- Develop an automation strategy to facilitate testing activities throughout Samsara product life cycles. Integrate hardware infrastructure for simulation, hardware validation, and product development.
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsaras cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.
- Hire, develop and lead an inclusive, engaged, and high performing team.

Minimum Requirements For This Role.

- Bachelors degree or higher preferably Computer Engineering.
- 7+ years of experience building tools for developer experience, productivity, test automation infrastructure, and frameworks.
- 2+ years of experience managing engineers, including hiring, performance management, and team development.
- Proven success in managing automation for both mobile (iOS/Android) and web applications.
- Demonstrated proficiency in debugging, troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams with diverse backgrounds.

An ideal candidate also has:

- Has built or worked on customer shipping software and understands the SDLC.
- Worked on developer tools, infrastructure and productivity.
- Understands how to build and ship customer software.
- Can translate requirements driven by engineering partners into thoughtful tooling, enhancements.
- Can dabble in code and is capable of providing code reviews and thinking about technical excellence.
- Has managed teams in different geographical locations.
