Supervisor - Nursing - Pediatrics

Job Purpose:
For the smooth Management of Department & improve patient safety & satisfaction by assisting the supervisors to get better outcome of patient care.
**1. General Responsibilities**
- Plan and arrange duty for nursing personnel posted under her/him in the absence of nursingSupervisor and ensure availability of adequate nursing staff in all shifts
- Ensure staff allocation based on Patient acuity tool base.
- Demonstrate and supervise the nursing care of patients in the unit.
- Attend regular rounds in the unit with the medical and nursing personnel in the absence of Nursing supervisor
- Review reports regarding the nursing care of patients in each shifts.
- Give counselling and health education to the patients and their attenders.
- Maintain discipline of nursing staff.
- Ensure all nurses are well groomed & adhere to dress code policy
- Keep the nursing supervisor informed about all the unit issues.
- Implementation of hospital policies, rules and regulations.
- She/He will ensure that all the records are maintained in the wards such as admission register & discharge register,
- Daily check of attendance and reporting the lapses.
- Maintain work evaluation and confidentiality of reports
- Take care of legal aspects and report about the medico legal cases in the ward.
- Participate in mentroship & orientation programme for new nursing staff.
- Maintain good inter personnel relationship with all categories of staff, patients and their relatives.
- Maintain good public relation with patients’ relatives and the public, and project positive image of the hospital
**2. Standardised Nursing Care in ICU's**
- Ensure to assign skilled, efficient & appropriate care to the patients with human touch and personalized attention
- Improving coordination among the Doctors, nurses and the other multidiciplinary team members.
- Maintain stock available in the ICUs, by assigning the work to different people & verifying them in regular intervals.
- Ensure that the ICU nurses are providing comprehensive /hosistic approach based individualized care.
- Identify Patient safety related adverse events, report & raise incidents & do CAPA.
- Streamlining of various processes related to inventory management & Billing.
- Ensure to monitor & prevent Risks to the patients by close assessment & Care.
**Quality Management Standards**
- Responsible and accountable for effective implementation of Quality Assurance Programme.
- Identify issues related to patient safety, report & raise incidents Reports.
- Active participation with - Clinical audits/Nursing quality improvement projects.
- Update the nurses with nursing quality indicators results and improvement plan.
**Hospital Infection control standards**
- Ensure cleanliness of the unit and its annexes.
- Ensure strict HIC practices such as Safe & effective Sterilization & Fumigation Procedure.
- Ensure all nurses follow Bundle care & Infection control standards strictly
**Medication Management**
- Periodical check of all medication stocks and supplies including crash cart.
- Motitor & guide the nurses to follow 10 rights of meedication administration policy.
- Strict complaince of Narcotocs& High risk medication inventory, storage & usage policy.
**Operations**
- Daily check of life saving equipment’s i.e. monitors, ventilators, defibrillators, suction machines and O2 points etc. to ensure their proper functioning.
- Liaise with the engineering / maintenance service department for proper up keep of the unit safety issues.
- Active participation in installation of new machines and facilitating acquaintance with the working and ensure that the specified nurses are also trained and well acquainted with the machine.
- Participate in in-service education and encourage the Staff to attend the same.
**Critical Care Unit Specification**
- Follow specific PICU/NICU policies & guidelines.
- Meet the basic hygienic needs of all patients like bed bath, mouth care, Catheter care etc.
- Take patient allocation from Incharge / supervisors as per the patient acuity level.
- Provide individualized care with comprehensive & holistic approach.
- Up on admission / Transfer in of patients ensure readiness of unit, receive the patient and make him / her comfortable.
- Nurses should have knowledge & skill on usage of all types of medical equipment used in the PICU/ NICU such as :ventilators,High Flow Oxygen, IncubatorsResuscitation equipment for the new-born at birthPhoto therapy unitPulse oximeterC-PAP deviceInfant WarmerCyclometer etc.
- Initial assessment to be completed immediately after the admission/ transfer in & Document.
- Nurses should know the protocol on ICU admission / discharge criteria.
- Should follow strict protocols on narcotics/ high risk medications & monitoring.
- Strict adherence to follow patient restraint policy.
- Ensure the guidelines to take care of critically ill patients with invasive and non invasive ventilator support/ Cardiac monitor.
