**About the role**:
Working closely with colleagues and senior stakeholders, you will translate business outcomes into user-centred design solutions with a focus on driving innovation and ensuring exceptional user experiences.

Whilst also a practitioner, you will lead a community of practice in your expert area, providing inspiring leadership, mentoring and guidance to your community of designers operating in a global environment in cross-functional teams to deliver innovative user-centric design solutions.

You will lead the way in the work you do by ensuring your designs are grounded in research and user feedback to put our users’ needs, motivations, and interaction patterns at the heart of all we do.

You will champion the agile working and ensure our Designers play a positive and constructive part of the delivery process. Similarly, you will work to strengthen digital capability across the wider organisation, ensuring feedback and metrics are monitored and analysed to improve the quality and consistency of our customers’ digital experience.

The Digital and Technology Directorate leads the British Council’s digital strategy and transformation. It creates and executes technology initiatives to fulfil the organisation’s mission and corporate priorities.

Key focus areas are:

- Creating digital products that attract and retain customers, delivering business value through digital design and delivery expertise.
- Developing and optimising digital platforms that provide seamless customer interactions and use scalable and secure capabilities.
- Enhancing digital capability across the organisation.
- Enabling growth, impact and efficiency through technology.

Digital and Technology is a global Directorate organised into four divisions: Product, Engineering, Operations and Performance which collectively create digital products and services, maintain, and improve products, services and platforms and optimise performance. Areas of responsibility include digital and technology strategy, architecture, infrastructure, software, development, data, innovation, and cybersecurity. It ensures that technology initiatives are customer and value focused, accessible, efficient, and secure.

You are a leader in the Product unit, which drives the creation and deployment of new technology products and cross functional teams to support the One British Council’s customer centric agenda. Our experts use a bottom-up approach, using customer needs and opportunities to drive technology choices that support the wider organisation’s commercial and non-commercial ambitions.

**Language Requirements**
- The British Council systems and global processes operate in English. Written and verbal proficiency in English is required.

**Education and Qualifications**
- Bachelor's degree in Design, or a related field, or equivalent experience in a related discipline.
- Continuous learning through online courses, workshops, and industry conferences to stay updated on design practices.
- Master's degree in Design or related field offering advanced knowledge and specialisation_ (Desirable)_
- Design Thinking Certification _(Desirable)_
- Accessibility Certification _(Desirable)_

**Role specific knowledge and experience**:

- **Proven experience**: Demonstrable senior level experience in at least one digital design discipline demonstrating a track record of successfully leading and delivering complex design projects.
- **User-centred design knowledge**: Solid understanding of user-centred design principles, methodologies, and practices, with experience conducting user research, creating personas, and designing user flows and/or content design.
- **Collaboration and communication**:Excellent collaboration and communication skills to effectively interact with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and clients, translating business requirements into effective design solutions.
- **Data-driven decision making**: Experience in leveraging data and analytics to drive design decisions, using qualitative and quantitative research methods to gather insights and optimise designs.
