**Roles and Responsibilities**:
**A. Nursing Care**:
- Assist the total needs of patients in the Unit and prepare planned nursing care.
- Demonstrate and supervise the nursing care of patients in the unit.
- Make Periodical bedside rounds in the unit to observe and identify the patient safety related issues and resolve it.
- Review reports regarding the nursing care of patients in each shift.
- Provide counselling and health education to the patients and their attenders as per requirement.
- Ensure proper shift hand off communication between nurses and in charge-nurses.
- Assist the nurses for the patient care, performing bedside procedures etc. according to the requirement.
- Ensure to maintain good professional communication with the patient.
**B. Ward management**:
- Maintain professional responsibility and accountabilities.
- Check and maintain punctuality in department specifically at the beginning of each shift by setting a role model.
- Check staff deployment & coordinate the work load for smooth functioning of the unit.
- Do the patient assignment based on patient acuity score and evaluate the outcome of the care by communicating with the nurse, patient and checking the patient file.
- Check on duty assignments, daily nursing care plans and schedules.
- Daily make frequent rounds at bed side and identify patient safety issues & resolve it.
- Prepare daily and consistent unbiased report about critically ill patients, VIPs and untoward incident and submit the report to the Assistant Nursing Superintendent / Chief Nursing Officer.
- Prepare Staff duty rota 1week prior beginning of every month & submit to ANS/CNO for the review & approval.
- Create awareness among staff in crisis management in the wards/department.
- Direct and supervise service activities on daily basis.
- Interact with patient's relatives and attendants to achieve cordial patient-staff relationship.
- Conduct periodical unit meetings to discuss the issues related to patient safety & quality of nursing care.
- Liaise between hospital management & nursing team.
- Be proactive in performing any special activates which may be assigned by the management.
- Continuous improvement to bring out best patient care outcome to improve satisfaction level of patient, customer, consultants & state holders.
**C. Ward Stock Inventory Management**
- Establish and ensure compliance to inventory standards for medicines, consumable supplies, all other miscellaneous material and equipment.
- Ensure safe medication storage, maintenance & administration.
- Monthly audit on Medication stock inventory to be done and report submit to ANS/CNO.
- Ensure safe Storage and maintains of high risk and LASA medications.
- Ensure Crash cart inventory is maintained on daily basis.
- Proper delegation and accountability to be implemented.
**D - Operations**
- Daily check of life saving equipment i.e. monitors, ventilators, defibrillators, suction machines and O2 points etc. to ensure their proper functioning.
- Liaise with the engineering / maintenance service department for proper functions of the unit & safety issues.
- Active participation in installation of new machines and ensure that all the nurses are capable of handling through training by the Biomedical staffs.
- Ensure all medical equipment like BP apparatus, suction apparatus, Infusion pump etc. Are in working condition, identifying and send the malfunctioning equipment to biomedical department for the repair.
**E. P**atients safety & Quality improvement**:
- Maintain safety at workplace for staff and patients.
- Responsible and accountable for effective implementation of Patient safety and quality improvement activities in the unit.
- Ensure strict compliance of HIC practices such as cleanliness of the unit, biomedical waste segregation, Hand wash, Bundle care etc.
- Ensure improvement of Nursing care & patient care outcome through continuous monitoring, analysis of Nursing Quality indicators and implement improvement plans.
- Attend to all emergencies and untoward incidents in the unit and make a detailed report to ANS/ CNO
- Active participation in improving the nursing standards through audits & Evidence based quality improvement projects.
- Have adequate knowledge on NABH nursing indicators, collect data, analyse, RCA and submit the report to ANS / CNO for review and submission the final report to Quality Manager.
- Active participation in improvement of patient safety issues and accompany the hospital safety committee members during the facility rounds in the department.
**F. **Staff development & retention**:
- Ensure to provide mentorship and Orientation programme to all the new staffs joining to the department
- Actively involved in supervising and guiding of the new nurses by giving individualized attention at least for 2 to 3 months after their joining.
- Supervise and evaluate on job performance of the nurses in terms of individualized patient care with comprehensive and holistic approach.
