For far too long, mental health services have been focused on symptoms and diagnoses. Misconceptions about mental health issues - that they are incapable of making decisions or taking care of themselves, that they are dangerous or objects of pity and welfare - mean they face discrimination in all aspects of life.

At Muktaa, we’re changing things around. We approach conversations around mental health through a _psychosocial, intersectional and rights-based approach_. This means _we support people to make their own decisions about their care and promote participation and community inclusion by addressing all important areas of a person’s life - including relationships, work, family, housing and education_ - rather than focusing only on symptom reduction.

Muktaa Charitable Foundation is a _non-profit organisation_ that has been working on various social issues like HIV/AIDS, addiction, sexual heath awareness, gender sensitization and life skill education since 2005. Our flagship Samvad HIV/AIDS helpline has helped more than
4_,00,000 callers_ since it was first started in 2005.

**This is where you come in**

The _Community Mental Health Associate_ will play a critical role in supporting our mission to improve access to mental health support. This intern will work closely with our community mental health support team to _raise awareness and sensitisation on mental health and create referral networks for individuals in need of psychosocial suppor_t.

**Location**: MCF Karvenagar office

**Duration**: 2 months, with the possibility of extension

**Hours**: 3-4 hours per weekday

**What your work basket will look like**:

- Develop and implement creative awareness campaigns, including posters, social media posts, and other materials.
- Conduct research and outreach to local organizations, groups, and individuals to build referral networks for psychosocial support.
- Collaborate with the community mental health support team to create and maintain a referral directory.
- Participate in training sessions to gain a deeper understanding of mental health and best practices for outreach and awareness.
- Attend and represent the organization at community events and workshops.
- Assist in tracking and measuring the impact of outreach and awareness efforts.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of new initiatives to improve access to mental health support.
