A bookkeeper's main responsibility is to track and record a business's financial transactions, and to ensure that the financial records are accurate and up to date. Bookkeepers also help to ensure that the business complies with legal requirements. Here are some of the responsibilities of a bookkeeper:

- **Record financial transactions**: Bookkeepers record all financial transactions, including sales, purchases, receipts, and payments.
- **Maintain financial records**: Bookkeepers update and maintain the general ledger, trial balance, and other financial records.
- **Prepare financial reports**: Bookkeepers prepare financial reports and statements for different accounting periods.
- **Assist with tax filing**: Bookkeepers may help accountants prepare and file the company's taxes.
- **Monitor cash flow**: Bookkeepers monitor cash flow and variances from the projected budget.
- **Process payroll**: Bookkeepers may assist in running payroll and tracking payroll data.
- **Process accounts payable and receivable**: Bookkeepers monitor and handle accounts payable and receivable.
- **Ensure legal compliance**: Bookkeepers use their knowledge of local laws to ensure the business complies with reporting requirements.
