Cafeteria Cook

**Job Summary**:
**Key Responsibilities**:
- **Meal Preparation**: Prepare and cook a variety of meals including breakfast, lunch, and snacks for 250 people, adhering to established menus, dietary guidelines, and portion sizes.
- **Menu Planning**: Assist in planning weekly or monthly menus, ensuring variety, balance, and nutritional value, while considering any dietary restrictions (e.g., allergies, vegan, gluten-free).
- **Food Safety & Sanitation**: Follow food safety regulations and sanitation procedures to ensure a clean and organized kitchen. Properly store and handle food to avoid contamination and spoilage.
- **Cooking Equipment Operation**: Safely operate kitchen appliances and cooking equipment, including ovens, stoves, grills, fryers, and mixers.
- **Inventory Management**: Monitor food supplies and ingredients, and assist with inventory control, placing orders as needed to maintain stock levels.
- **Meal Serving**: Coordinate and assist with food serving during mealtimes, ensuring efficiency, presentation, and adherence to portion control standards.
- **Team Collaboration**: Work effectively with other kitchen staff, including prep cooks, dishwashers, and servers, to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
- **Customer Service**: Interact professionally with customers and staff, addressing any concerns regarding meal quality, dietary restrictions, or food preferences.
- **Cleaning & Maintenance**: Ensure all kitchen equipment and workspaces are cleaned and maintained after meal preparation and service. Adhere to daily and deep cleaning schedules.
**Qualifications**:
- **Experience**: Previous experience as a cook or in a food preparation role, preferably in a high-volume cafeteria, school, or institutional setting.
- **Knowledge**: Strong understanding of food safety guidelines, sanitation regulations, and kitchen equipment usage.
- **Skills**: Excellent cooking skills, and ability to prepare a variety of dishes efficiently and at scale. Strong organizational and time management skills.
- **Physical Stamina**: Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy objects. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- **Education**: High school diploma or equivalent. Culinary training or coursework is a plus.
**Working Conditions**:
- Fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting of heavy items such as bulk food supplies.
**Schedule**:
Full-time schedule with shifts aligned to meal service times (e.g., breakfast, lunch, and snack periods). Flexibility to work early mornings or evenings as needed.
