Job description Job Title: Global Vendor & Technology Development Engineer Department: Engineering Reports To: Head of Engineering Location: Pune (with frequent international travel to vendor sites in key markets such as China, Taiwan, and within India). Job Summary: The Global Technology Vendor Development Engineer is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and developing vendors for a broad range of technology products. This role requires a multi-disciplinary technical background encompassing electronics, mechanical systems, plastics, and other material sciences. The incumbent will conduct on-site technical audits, pilot limited production quantities, and validate vendor capabilities against rigorous quality and performance standards. Once vendors meet the defined criteria, the validated information is handed over to the procurement team for contract finalization and broader sourcing. This role reports directly to the Head of Engineering and serves as the primary technical liaison between global vendors and internal teams. Key Responsibilities: · International Vendor Identification & Evaluation: o Travel to key manufacturing regions (e.g., China, Taiwan) and within India to identify potential vendors for technology products. o Conduct comprehensive on-site technical audits, reviewing production capabilities and quality control processes across electronics, mechanical systems, plastics, and other relevant material areas. · Multi-disciplinary Technical Assessment: o Evaluate vendor processes, product samples, and production techniques to ensure compliance with diverse technical specifications (including electronics, mechanical, and plastics standards). o Oversee limited pilot operations or production trials to validate vendor performance and ensure quality benchmarks are met. · Vendor Relationship Development: o Establish and nurture preliminary relationships with international and domestic vendors, ensuring clear communication of multi-disciplinary technical requirements. o Serve as the primary technical point of contact during the vendor evaluation phase. · Cross-Functional Collaboration & Handover: o Collaborate closely with internal engineering teams—including electronics, mechanical, and material specialists—to align vendor capabilities with project requirements. o Coordinate with the procurement team to transition validated vendor information for contract negotiations and broader sourcing activities. · Process Improvement: o Continuously refine and enhance the vendor evaluation and development process by leveraging insights from diverse technical disciplines and industry trends. o Develop New Product Designs: Lead the development of innovative and market-relevant product designs in alignment with company objectives and customer needs. o Prototype Creation and Handover: Oversee the prototyping phase to ensure it meets specifications, quality standards, and deadlines. Post-prototype validation, facilitate a smooth handover to the procurement team for scaling and production readiness. o Stakeholder Communication: Maintain clear and consistent communication with stakeholders, ensuring alignment across all phases of product development. Qualifications and Requirements: · Education: o Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field. A Master's degree or additional certifications (e.g., CPSM) is a plus. · Experience: o Minimum of 5–7 years' experience in a technical or vendor development role within a manufacturing environment, ideally with exposure to international suppliers from regions such as China and Taiwan. o Proven track record in performing technical audits, vendor evaluations, and pilot operations across multiple technical disciplines. · Technical Skills: o Strong multi-disciplinary technical background with solid knowledge in electronics, mechanical systems, plastics, and related materials. o Experience in conducting comprehensive technical assessments and audits, with a keen eye for quality control and compliance. · Soft Skills: o Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to build and manage vendor relationships across cultures. o Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail. o Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. · Travel: o Willingness and ability to travel internationally and domestically on a frequent basis. · Language: o Fluency in English is required; knowledge of additional languages (e.g., Mandarin) is a plus. Working Conditions: · Primarily based in India with extensive travel to vendor sites in key regions including China, Taiwan, and other strategic locations. · Regular collaboration with engineering and procurement teams to ensure smooth handover and integration of vendor capabilities.
