POSITION TITLE:

GWC Local Project Manager for Watershed Health & Conservation Programs (Consultant)
LOCATION:

Consultancy will last one year with the potential for an extension.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Global Water Challenge seeks an experienced watershed health and conservation professional as a Local Project Manager liaison for GWC (10-20 hours/week) to lead and coordinate the implementation of watershed health and conservation projects across Asia, Europe and the Middle East, ensuring alignment with program objectives and local needs. Program target countries include Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Poland, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, and Vietnam. The role entails working closely with local communities, partner NGOs, government agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to restore and protect critical watersheds, promote sustainable water resource management, and enhance community and ecosystem resilience.

The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills, demonstrated water-sector experience, a solid understanding of water-related and environmental issues, and a passion for driving impactful solutions. He or she will be responsible for strategic planning, development, coordination, tracking, and reporting activities to implement projects successfully. This position will also coordinate monitoring activities, oversee contractors, and work with GWC staff and other partners to further our client's mission.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Implementation & Management
Oversee implementation of projects and localized action plans for watershed conservation, restoration, and management in alignment with program objectives.
Ensure projects are executed on time, within budget, and meet expected outcomes, and provide coaching and technical guidance to implementing partners as needed, as they apply grant guidelines.
Coordinate activities such as reforestation, invasive species removal, wetland restoration, water quality improvement, erosion control, and habitat restoration.
Establish systems to monitor project progress and assess the impact of interventions on watershed health and ecosystem services.
Manage all components of specific grants, including preparing detailed reports, case studies, and presentations to share outcomes, lessons learned, and success stories with stakeholders and donors.
Coordinate and support quantification of volumetric water benefits (VWBs).

Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with local and regional stakeholders, including government agencies, community organizations, NGOs, and private sector partners.
Act as a liaison between local stakeholders and the broader program team to ensure alignment and effective communication.
Collaborate with regional and international program teams to share insights, adapt strategies, and ensure the program aligns with broader goals.
Identify project priorities, risks, challenges, and opportunities and propose solutions for effective program delivery.
Organize and participate in field tours and site visits as needed in coordination with GWC staff, implementing partners, and donors.
Represent GWC at external events.
Assume additional responsibilities as required for GWC.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will possess the following abilities:
Four-year degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Water Resources Management, Conservation Biology or a related field; master's degree a plus.
5+ years of relevant work experience managing field-based environmental or conservation projects, preferably focused on water resource management or watershed conservation.
Knowledge of grant proposal guidelines and previous experience managing water stewardship projects in Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
Strong knowledge of watershed management, hydrology, conservation, climate change adaptation, and volumetric water benefits (VWBs); water access, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) experience a plus.
Demonstrated experience working in cross-cultural and multi-country contexts, especially in Asia, Europe, or the Middle East – working with local communities, NGOs, government agencies, and multi-stakeholder partnerships.
Knowledge of local & regional policies, regulations, and governance structures related to water resources and environmental management.
Excellent project management skills, including planning, budgeting, and reporting and demonstrated ability to plan, meet deadlines, and efficiently manage multiple tasks and priorities under tight time constraints and in a highly organized manner.
Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal research, and analytical skills, with fluency in English. Additional language a plus.
Engaging and enthusiastic when working with leaders and staff; ability to build and cultivate relationships with a broad range of local leaders, stakeholders and community contacts.
Capable of working both independently and collaboratively; supervisory experience a plus.
A solid commitment to GWC's mission.
Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
