About the Role The Principal Data and Insights is a pivotal role transforming research and data into actionable insights for the Global Corporate Affairs and Communications function and broader business to help protect and enhance BHP’s reputation, to manage risk and to contribute to social value creation. Responsibilities will include: Developing and executing a comprehensive research, data and insights strategy aligned with corporate objectives and regional market needs to support business, brand, reputation and advocacy goals Overseeing the collection, analysis, and interpretation of market data (corporate reputation tracking, stakeholder sentiment, community perception, political polling, project specific) to provide actionable insights Translating complex data into clear narratives, enabling non-technical stakeholders to make informed decisions Advising senior leadership on data-related matters, contributing to business discussions with actionable, data-driven insights Presenting findings and recommendations that will inform strategy to senior leadership and stakeholders in a clear and compelling manner Working closely with cross-functional teams, to ensure alignment and integration of insights into strategy and plans Managing relationships with external research vendors, polling agencies and data analytics organisations to ensure high-quality deliverables Staying abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve research methodologies and tools Identifying, exploring, and implementing cutting-edge techniques in the insights field to ensure our research approaches remain at the forefront of industry standards Championing the use of advanced analytics, AI, and machine learning to uncover deeper insights and drive strategic decision-making About You As a successful candidate you will possess the following: Demonstrated experience in market research and/or political polling Proven ability in a leadership role Strategic mindset with the ability to align data initiatives to business outcomes Deep understanding of research methodologies and audience insights Strong analytical skills for proven ability to turn data into actionable insights and expertise in applying solutions to real-world challenges Strong knowledge of brand and reputation evaluation and effectiveness measures Clear and demonstrable experience in generating actionable insights that have led to positive outcomes, or contributed to shaping and meeting business objectives Advanced planning and organisational capabilities to manage complex projects and stakeholders, with the ability to communicate effectively at the C-suite level Excellent problem-solving skills, with the capacity to navigate ambiguity, manage competing priorities, and make sound, data-informed recommendations A natural ability to influence positive outcomes without direct authority, working collaboratively across different functions to achieve shared goals Highly organised and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a commitment to fostering a culture of transparency and accountability Proven and relied-on business partner, recognised for reliability and partnership in Creates a culture of learning and action through collaboration and partnership Deep understanding of data governance, ethical data use, and privacy considerations Proficiency in statistical analysis, data visualization, and business intelligence tools Open for applications until 10-Dec About Our Process  At BHP, we are committed to employing individuals who align with the BHP Charter Values and meet the requirements of the role.
