Data Center Engineer

Dolat Capital, a quantitative trading firm is looking for a Data Center Engineer to join our systems and infrastructure team. A well-planned and well-orchestrated cabling and racking infrastructure are just as important to us as well-engineered trading application. We are looking for an Engineer who has a drive for improvement and a want to bring new ideas to the table. This is a chance to take ownership of the physical part of our trading infrastructure across multiple data centers and hundreds of servers, all the while striving for simplicity and operational excellence. Responsibilities You will be in charge of maintaining our co-locations and on-site data center Installing and cabling switches, servers, and appliances in our onsite data center Prepare hardware equipment for remote site deployments Build out and maintaining our office infrastructure environment, including our trading floor Replacing hard drives/memory/transceivers and other hardware related tasks as required by our server and network teams Getting equipment to and from remote colocations including packing Facilitating installation of servers and network equipment with smart hands in remote co-locations Managing power and space including monitoring and capacity planning Maintaining a consistent and clean cable management philosophy Managing equipment inventory Maintaining data center documentation Responsible for maintaining detailed documentation of all deployed IT assets using an internal database Co-ordinate with technicians in our remote sites to troubleshoot network related issues Propose and implement methods of general site improvement Install, upgrade, configure and maintain network equipment, servers and Operating Systems Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and Layer 1 and 2 connectivity problems Co-ordinate with service providers for the installation and activation of new services Remotely provide technical support to 3rd party contractors various tasks Document system problems and resolutions for future reference Available for emergency remote troubleshooting after hours Assisting with planning moves or new build-outs Qualifications Minimum 2 years of work experience in a similar role within the data center industry, a Bachelors degree in Engineering Experience working in a modern, large-scale data center Attention to detail and cleanliness Ability to identify basic parts of network equipment – SFPs, line cards, chassis Ability to identify basic parts of servers – memory, network card, hard drives Knowledge of structured cabling systems using cat 5, cat 6, multi-mode and single-mode fiber Familiarity with both power and communications cabling standards Experience configuring and using cable testers for both fiber and copper to troubleshoot cabling issues An understanding of change control processes Strong documentation and logistics mentality Extensive knowledge in computer networking, troubleshooting and analytical skills in a fast-paced and continually evolving environment Research and apply advancements in IT to existing system environments Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining various hardware, software platforms, and hands-on hardware and software troubleshooting experience Adept at identifying and solving problems at various levels of internetworked computer systems Sound technical knowledge of current network hardware, network management concepts, LAN and WAN networking, Windows and Linux Operating Systems, Virtualization Prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
