Job Summary

The Plumbing Engineer is responsible for designing, planning, installing, and maintaining plumbing systems for residential and commercial buildings, with a focus on multi-story apartments. The role involves coordinating with architects, civil engineers, and MEP teams to ensure plumbing systems are safe, efficient, and compliant with local building codes and standards. The candidate must be familiar with Tamil Nadu building regulations and have hands-on site execution experience within the state.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Planning

  • Develop detailed plumbing system designs (water supply, drainage, sewage, and rainwater harvesting).
  • Prepare technical drawings and layouts using AutoCAD or BIM software.
  • Ensure system design complies with IS codes, NBC (National Building Code), and local authority requirements.

Project Execution & Supervision

  • Oversee installation of plumbing fixtures, piping networks, and pumping systems.
  • Supervise contractors and ensure work quality matches approved drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to avoid service clashes.

Water Supply & Distribution

  • Design and implement hot & cold water distribution systems.
  • Specify pumps, storage tanks, water meters, and pressure regulating systems.

Drainage & Sewage Systems

  • Design wastewater drainage, venting systems, and stormwater disposal networks.
  • Plan septic tanks, sewage treatment plants (STP), and greywater recycling systems where required.

Quality Control & Compliance

  • Conduct site inspections and pressure tests for leak detection.
  • Maintain documentation for approvals, inspections, and commissioning.
  • Ensure compliance with plumbing codes, safety standards, and environmental guidelines.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Provide guidance on maintenance schedules for pumps, valves, and pipelines.
  • Diagnose and resolve plumbing-related issues in existing buildings.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of plumbing systems for multi-story buildings.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and hydraulic calculation tools.
  • Understanding of fire-fighting water systems (hydrants, sprinklers).
  • Ability to interpret architectural and structural drawings.
  • Knowledge of water conservation and green building plumbing systems.
  • Good project management and team coordination skills.

Qualifications

  • Education: Diploma / B.Tech / B.E. in Mechanical, Civil, or Plumbing Engineering.
  • Experience: 5–10 years (with hands-on experience in high-rise apartments and commercial building projects).
  • Certifications (Preferred): Plumbing Design Certification, Green Building (IGBC/LEED), Fire Fighting System Certification.
