Inviting applications for the role of Lead Consultant - IT Backup & Recovery Specialist.
An IT Backup and Recovery Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring the data and systems of an organization are protected and can be restored in case of data loss or system failures. They are responsible for implementing and managing backup and recovery solutions to safeguard an organization's critical information. Here's a typical job description for an IT Backup and Recovery Specialist:
Responsibilities:
Ø Backup Solution Management: Design, implement, and manage backup and recovery solutions to protect data, applications, and systems. This includes configuring and maintaining backup software and hardware.
Ø Data Backup: Perform regular backups of critical data, including databases, file systems, and other relevant information, ensuring data integrity and security.
Ø Recovery Planning: Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans, including recovery time objectives (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO) for different systems and data types.
Ø Backup Scheduling: Set up backup schedules to ensure that data is backed up at appropriate intervals, and monitor backup jobs to verify their completion.
Ø Data Restoration: Be prepared to initiate data recovery procedures when needed, ensuring minimal downtime and data loss in case of system failures, data corruption, or cyberattacks.
Ø Testing and Validation: Regularly test backup and recovery processes to validate their effectiveness and identify potential issues.
Ø Security and Compliance: Implement security measures to protect backup data and ensure compliance with relevant data protection and privacy regulations.
Ø Incident Response: Develop and execute incident response plans to address data loss and data breaches. Collaborate with security teams when data loss is due to cybersecurity incidents.
Ø Documentation: Maintain documentation of backup and recovery procedures, configurations, and recovery plans. Keep records of incidents and responses for auditing and reporting purposes.
Ø Capacity Planning: Monitor and plan for storage capacity requirements based on data growth and backup needs.
Ø Vendor Management: Manage relationships with backup and recovery solution vendors, including evaluating and recommending new technologies as needed.
Ø Training and Awareness: Educate employees and IT staff on backup and recovery best practices and conduct regular training to enhance awareness.
Qualifications we seek in you
Minimum Qualifications/Skills
· Bachelor’s degree in IS, Computer Science, MIS Management, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience required. But relevant certifications and experience can be valuable.
· Excellent Communication and interpersonal Skills
· A bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field is typically preferred, but relevant certifications and experience can be valuable.
Preferred Qualifications/ Skills
Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of backup and recovery solutions, backup software, and hardware, including experience with backup solutions such as Veeam, Commvault, or similar products.
Data Protection Expertise: Understanding of data protection, privacy regulations, and cybersecurity principles.
Storage Management: Familiarity with storage technologies and capacity planning.
Disaster Recovery Planning: Experience in developing and testing disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
Security Awareness: Knowledge of security best practices related to backup and recovery processes.
Problem-Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose and address backup and recovery issues.
Documentation Skills: Proficiency in documenting procedures, configurations, and plans.
Communication Skills: Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with various stakeholders and teams.
Adaptability: The ability to adapt to changing technologies and evolving threats to data.
