The Internal Control framework is an important pillar of Risk Management. It helps management understand risks faced and reduces operational risks allowing for targeted actions to mitigate risks in line with the risk appetite framework. It ensures ultimately that in each Department key internal controls are implemented, documented, assessed and monitored against material risks with clear management accountabilities and a second line function in charge of validation and review of this internal control framework.
As part of AXA XL's Divisional Risk Management function—within the Risk Governance, Internal Control, and Operational Risk department—you will lead the Internal Control Framework for insurance core business processes across the AXA XL division globally. Leveraging your deep understanding of our operations and risk landscape, you will partner with senior executives and operational leaders to embed a influential control culture, enhance governance practices, and ensure alignment with AXA Group's risk appetite and regulatory expectations.
In this highly visible and strategically important role, you will be responsible for guiding the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of internal controls. You will support and challenge first-line managers in formalizing and operating effective controls, conduct second-line assurance activities, and deliver insightful reporting to AXA XL senior management and AXA Group. This is an ideal opportunity for a control professional ready to step into a senior position and influence decision-making at the highest levels of the organization.
You will report to the Internal Control Manager for Core Business and Support Functions.
What you'll be doing
What will your essential responsibilities include?
- Lead the design, implementation, and evolution of the Internal Control Framework for insurance core business processes across AXA XL.
- Act as a trusted advisor to management, providing guidance on control design, risk mitigation, and governance practices.
- Represent Internal Control in management forums and contribute to the preparation of materials for Risk & Audit Committees, delivering insights and recommendations that shape business decisions.
- Perform and oversee second line testing activities, including design and operational effectiveness reviews, and ensure timely remediation of control gaps.
- Drive quarterly self-assessment processes and support business units in developing robust action plans.
- Mentor and coach junior team members, regional risk managers and contribute to the development of internal control capabilities across the organization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Required Skills And Abilities
- Proven track record in internal control, audit, or operational risk, ideally within AXA XL or a comparable insurance environment.
- Outstanding understanding of P&C commercial business processes and AXA XL's risk governance framework.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and engage with senior stakeholders and executive committees.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Fluent in English.
