Lead Engineer – Civil & Structural

The Lead Engineer of of Civil & Structural Engineering will be part of Avina Clean Hydrogen team based in Vadodra, India (On-site role). He/She will be responsible for the civil and structural design and engineering function with technical guidance and consultation for various global projects under development.


Role Requirements :

As a member in the Hydrogen Development - Engineering team, this critical role will be responsible for supporting the civil and structural function by providing technical guidance and consulting on specific project-related deliverables, design of foundations, buildings, structural, etc. at various stages of the project start right through conceptual study, feasibility study, FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and plant handover to internal / client’s operation team and to work closely with other functions and other internal / external stakeholders to ensure successful project deliveries.  


Position Summary :

  • Able to manage deliverables from start to finish stages of project, through conceptual study, feasibility study, FEED, detail engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and plant handover.
  • Develop, review & issue the Civil/Structural deliverables in line with project specifications, client expectations through effective interface with Client, team members and all project stake holders.
  • Develops and/or review the design standards, specifications for Geotech studies, Buildings and Foundations, structural frameworks construction and testing work.
  • Perform man-hour estimates for Civil & Structural design works & responsible for completing job within estimated Man hours.
  • Evaluate contractors for detailed engineering and site construction, engage with the contractors, assure quality control and ensure the quality of work being carried out by engineering company meeting national/ international norms and standards.
  • Coordination with Detail Engineering Contractor (DEC) for quality deliverables by review of drawings and calculations and providing the comments/ suggestions for optimizations abiding the codal provisions and tracking of MTO produced by DEC at various stages.
  • Responsible for developing and/or review of foundation design calculations and drawings of static/ rotary equipment, tanks, dike wall, flares, buildings, pipe racks & sleepers. Review of overall foundation layouts & pavement layouts for constructability.
  • Responsible for design of various plant and non-plant buildings e.g., substation, ETP/ STP/ WTP, control room, workshops, warehouses, administrative buildings, etc. considering the specifications, local code requirements, statutory requirements and clearing of all relevant interfaces.
  • Develop and/or review of 3D model for clash free design & participated in various 3D model reviews. Issue & review of design drawing & design calculation along with checklists to avoid/minimize design errors for achieving accuracy of documents.
  • Develop and/or check Civil / Structural material take-off including structural steel, rebar, anchor bolt, etc. and issue the same to site contractor for procurement and execution purposes. 
  • Responsible for prompt resolution of various site technical queries for both civil and structural in consultation with detail engineering contractor, EPC, site contractor, vendors for faster and parallel execution of construction work.
  • Knowledge of International design codes and standards applicable for civil and structural design work. Knowledge and experience of prevailing codes and norms of US is essential.
  • Foresees of critical issues related to design, interfaces, constructability and budgeted MTO and initiate the resolution proactively to avoid delay and additional cost impacts.
  • Apply cost competitive design and execution techniques to develop the most cost-effective total project solution for controlling Total Installed Cost (TIC) of the project.
  • Provides inputs during all design phases including interpretation of standards. Actively communicates with other departments to optimize areas of interface during design development, review, and check processes.
  • Coordinate with CAD Team to develop the deliverables as per the project requirement, providing mark ups to complete the work as planned.
  • Trains and mentors’ engineers and designers by providing appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development.
  • Participates in Technical and progress reviews of projects. Familiar with organization procedures and international standards and codes.
  • Ability to work closely with Project management team (Local and International) and ensure proper execution of the job within the specified scope. Manages design issues with contractors / sub-contractors and ensures design compliance with the client design.


Basic Qualifications / Skills & Qualifications:

  • Applicant must have bachelor’s degree in Civil engineering of 4 years or equivalent degree. Candidates having a master’s degree in Civil or Structural engineering will be provided preference.
  • Minimum of 12 to 15 years of FEED and EPC experience in civil and structural design & engineering function for Oil and Gas industry.
  • A professional license in an appropriate engineering or scientific discipline, from a recognized licensing board shall be preferred.

  • Energetic and positive attitude working with multiple clients on a wide variety of projects.
  • Skilled in oral and written communication. Able to work in project groups with shared-work teams globally, to progress project designs.
  • Well versed with Indian and International Standards and US local statutory norms.
  • Expert proficiency in operating examination and Design Software such as STAAD.Pro, Tekla, SP3D, ACAD and other relevant Software latest versions software and shall be capable of developing advance excel design spread sheets using macros.
  • Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders.
  • Knowledge of systems, calculations, applications of methods, plant layout, materials, and computers for preparation of analyses and development of project deliverables within the discipline.
  • Broad knowledge of the application of Engineering to plant constructability as applied to construction methods and materials.
  • Understanding of the roles played by other functions on projects including basic construction practices.
  • Experience in reputed EPC Companies will be preferred. Execution of Hydrogen, Ammonia, Methanol projects is a plus.
