The Buying & Planning role is responsible for managing the procurement and inventory planning process to ensure optimal stock levels, maximize profitability, and align with sales targets. This role involves supplier negotiations, demand forecasting, inventory management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive business growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Buying & Procurement:

a. Identify and source products that align with the company's merchandising strategy and customer demand.

b. Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiating terms, pricing, and delivery schedules.

c. Analyze market trends, competitor strategies, and customer preferences to make informed buying decisions.

d. Manage purchase orders, ensuring timely procurement and stock availability.

  1. Merchandise Planning & Inventory Management:

a. Learn to develop seasonal merchandise plans based on sales forecasts.

b. Assist in monitoring inventory levels and understanding how to optimize stock turnover.

c. Coordinate with supply chain and warehouse teams to learn about efficient stock movement.

d. Learn how to use data to identify popular and slow-moving products.

  1. Sales & Performance Analysis:

a. Learn to analyse sales performance and key merchandising metrics.

b. Assist in identifying areas for improvement and learn how to recommend action plans.

c. Work with marketing and store teams to understand how promotions and product launches align with sales strategies

  1. Collaboration & Coordination:

a. Learn to work with vendors, designers, and product development teams.

b. Assist in coordinating with retail operations to ensure smooth execution of merchandising plans.

c. Gain exposure to working with finance teams on budgets and pricing strategies

• Analytical Aptitude: A strong interest in developing your analytical and forecasting skills to support demand planning and sales projections.


• Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and a desire to collaborate effectively with team members.


• Learning Agility: A willingness to learn and develop your skills in inventory management, merchandise planning, and vendor interaction.


• Retail Curiosity: A keen interest in understanding retail buying cycles, trends, and pricing strategies.


• Technical Proficiency: A strong grasp of Microsoft Excel and a desire to learn ERP or other inventory management software.


• Number Acumen: A comfortable understanding of numbers and a willingness to improve excel skills.

Qualifications & Experience:


• Bachelor's or master's degree in Merchandising, Fashion, Business, or a related field.


• A strong desire to begin a career in buying, planning, or merchandising within the retail industry.


• A willingness to learn about demand planning, purchase order management, sales analysis, and the growing field of e-commerce merchandising.


• A positive attitude and a passion for learning.
