Responsibilities:

  • Design and optimize PostgreSQL database solutions in collaboration with software developers, data analysts, and stakeholders.
  • Translate data requirements into efficient database designs and implement data manipulation logic using SQL, PL/pgSQL, and PostgreSQL features.
  • Write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and functions to ensure data integrity and improve system performance.
  • Play a crucial role in indexing strategies and query optimization to enhance overall system efficiency.
  • Advise on best practices for database development and maintenance, including performance optimization, scalability, and data security.
  • Create and maintain maintenance scripts for tasks such as backups, performance monitoring, and database optimization to ensure smooth operation of PostgreSQL database systems in production environments.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for database-related issues as needed.
  • Document database designs, configurations, and maintenance procedures for reference and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Knowledge transfer to development teams

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent


Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in SQL (Structured Query Language) for data manipulation and querying.
  • Strong understanding of PL/SQL for developing stored procedures, triggers, and functions in PostgreSQL.
  • In-depth knowledge of PostgreSQL features and functionalities, including advanced features such as partitioning, replication, and JSONB data types.
  • Experience with OLAP database schema design
  • Ability to optimize SQL queries and database performance using techniques such as indexing, query tuning, and analyzing execution plans.
  • Familiarity with database security principles and best practices, including access controls, encryption, and authentication mechanisms.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining maintenance scripts for tasks such as backups, monitoring, and performance optimization.
  • Understanding of database high availability and disaster recovery solutions, such as replication, clustering, and failover mechanisms.
  • Proficiency in version control systems like Git for managing database schema changes and configurations.
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts and techniques for managing large volumes of data effectively.
  • Experience with database administration tasks such as database installation, configuration, and upgrades is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot database-related issues effectively.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions like Amazon RDS, Google Cloud SQL, or Azure Database for PostgreSQL is advantageous.
