Role Summary
Student Recruitment Officer will develop the University of Manchester’s student recruitment activity in India, and supporting the work of The University of Manchester’s International Office. The post holder will build successful working relationships with key partners and stakeholders in India (including recruitment agents; universities; schools; colleges; the British Council, alumni and graduate employers) in order to increase the volume, quality and diversity (by level of study, destination subject area and region of India) of registrations from India to The University of Manchester (UoM). It will also involve the implementation of a digital marketing plan.
Key Responsibilities
- To provide excellent customer service throughout the applicant journey for Indian students, working in close partnership with the India Country Adviser, India Country Manager and academic schools.
- To ensure the provision of accurate information, advice and guidance to prospective students and other key stakeholders in India on issues relating to student recruitment and admission to the University of Manchester.
- To attend student recruitment events within India, offering advice and information to potential applicants, offer-holders and their key influencers on the University and UK HE in general. This will involve delivering presentations, advice and guidance and acting as a key representative of the University.
- To ensure that all potential student leads are followed up and driven from enquiry to application and from application to registration with diversification subject areas as key focus.
- To support the India Country Adviser and India Country Manager in growing applications and enrolments especially from diversified subject areas from India
- To organise events including applicant/offer holder sessions in target cities across India to improve conversion of students, especially in the diversified subject areas.
- To conduct carefully targeted telephone conversion work for students, with students with an interest in diversifying subjects a priority and maintain a record of conversations via the University’s CRM.
- To support the India Country Adviser and India Country Manager in drawing together latest Indian market trends and opportunities from relevant regions in India for dissemination to colleagues across the University. This might comprise analysis of the key regions/institutions for specific subject areas based on organic growth and local insight.
- Better establish the University’s visibility in target tier 2 and tier 3 cities through engagement with agent offices and feeder schools
- To represent the University at recruitment exhibitions, alumni engagement, seminars, school visits and presentation events across India, involving significant domestic travel (12-16 weeks annually)
- To support in arranging school and Faculty visits to India, by organising in-country recruitment activities as directed by India Country Adviser and Manager and providing logistical support for travelling staff
- To develop and manage practices and procedures that ensure that confidentiality is maintained in line with data protection requirements and University Policy.
- To undertake such other duties as may be required from time-to-time by the Directorate for the Student Experience commensurate with the level of responsibility of the role
- To support with the development and delivery of high-quality information and training resources for Indian recruitment agents and other stakeholders. In doing so, to foster an effective working relationship with key contacts in agent offices and to be the first point of enquiry for agents India.
- To work with Indian agent partners to ensure the submission of high-quality applications to the University through regular training and engagement with key agent counsellors and offices
- To provide support on the University’s digital marketing activities in India, including potential Indian social media channels.
- To assist in the design and development of marketing collateral for an Indian audience.
- To develop in-depth knowledge of a specific region but with the flexibility to cover others as necessary
- To assist with the evaluation and monitoring of projects, including production of market reports, to contribute to the development of the University’s student recruitment strategy in India.
- To build positive relationships with alumni in support of recruitment objectives.
- To build positive relationships with school counsellors, agents, independent career counsellors, parents and other key stakeholders
Experience and Skills Requirements
- 4-6 years of working experience in Higher Education sector (Mandatory)
- A high level of English Language competency (IELTS 7 or equivalent) (Mandatory)
- To possess a degree (preferably from a UK university), relevant professional qualification and/or substantial experience of delivering educational marketing activities. (Preferred)
- Experience in a similar role in the education sector (and preferably Russell Group University) in India or elsewhere. (Preferred)
- Up to date knowledge of the UK university application process and issues facing prospective international students and their advisers in relation to university admissions.
- A proven understanding of the Indian HE system.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) demonstrating an ability to deal with a wide range of people with varying levels of understanding, with experience and aptitude for developing and delivering engaging presentations to a variety of audiences.
- A flexible team player with the ability to support colleagues.
- Proven experience and aptitude for relationship management
- Willingness to travel domestically and to the UK. (Mandatory)
- Experience of working in a customer focused environment with the ability to represent the University in a professional manner.
- Excellent organisational skills, able to plan and prioritize a variety of work activities in a busy environment and meet strict deadlines.
- Demonstrates an ability to be creative and solve problems, with experience of contributing to the development and improvement of systems and procedures.
- Strong numeracy skills, demonstrating accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent computer skills, with experience of using Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrates a commitment to international relations and the ability to work effectively and independently in a variety of contexts.
- Commitment to the University’s values and behaviors.
This post requires a substantial amount of travel within India and periodic travel to the UK for training purposes. Appointees must, therefore, be prepared to undertake such travel and to work outside regular office hours including evenings and weekends as necessary. The University operates arrangements to recognize this working pattern and to ensure an appropriate balance between working and non-working time
