Responsible for start-up and plant operations activities including equipment and system checkout, inspection for proper installation, review for correct design, and calculation of expected system and equipment operating parameters under temporary start-up conditions. Coordinates start-up operations, including the direction of craft, and all other start-up activities such as flushing, chemical cleaning, and initial equipment and system operation. Coordinates performance tests and calculates test results and heat balances. Performs calculations required to properly evaluate design changes, provides engineering reports for the engineering department to assist in design change preparation. Works with client at the site. With general autonomy, establishes and maintains the technical standards within the discipline. Conceives and develops creative/innovative technology critical to the company's success. Responsible for extensive and complex programs requiring staff and resources of sizable magnitude. Job role is independently accountable for a large staff or support arm of the organization or a single profit/loss or revenue center, major product line, or support function. Skills are typical acquired through an undergraduate degree in Engineering and a minimum of 15 years related experience, with average experience of 20+ years.


  • Job Description:

To provide advisory support to our clients during pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup of licensed units for Ammonia/Syn gas Technologies and ensure safe and efficient start-up of the unit. This may require extended presence at our client’s locations world over. This position also supports our Engineering teams during the BED and Post BED phase of the project, with commissioning and start up related inputs.

  • Being an interface with our clients, this position requires a deep understanding of the technology combined with excellent communication and leadership skills.

  • Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Comply with all KBR home office safety and security requirements.
  • Write Ammonia plant operating philosophy manuals based upon engineering designs.
  • Collate Ammonia plant analytical manuals.
  • Provide commissioning, operations, and maintenance related inputs during design engineering and PHAs.
  • Develop Ammonia plant training material based upon engineering designs.
  • Impart training to Plant Owner’s Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance Teams in both classroom and host plant settings.
  • Provide commissioning, operations, and maintenance advice to the KBR Engineering Team as needed.


  • Roles & Responsibilities – Job Site:
  • Comply with all the Client site and KBR HSSE requirements.
  • Complete tasks assigned by the Lead Commissioning Advisor.
  • Participate in P&ID plant walk down activities independently or as part of a team and prepare punch lists.
  • Participate in the internal inspection of vessels.
  • Support, Monitor and record plant pre-commissioning activities.
  • Support, Monitor and record catalyst and desiccant loading activities.
  • Monitor and record catalyst reduction activities.
  • Monitor plant operations and provide guidance to the plant owner’s operations team as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve plant operational difficulties.
  • Work in shifts as directed by the Lead Commissioning Advisor and support client’s operations teams during startup of the units.
  • Preparation of the Commissioning and Start-Up closeout report.
  • Preparation of lessons learnt reports and provide feedback to the Engineering teams.


  • Required Qualifications & Experience:
  • A graduate Chemical Engineer
  • 20+ years of management & operations experience of a world scale ammonia plant
  • Experience with KBR technology (Purifier based) is preferred.
  • High level of verbal & written English communication skills are a must.
  • Willingness to spend extended periods of time at client plant sites worldwide.
  • Prior experience of writing plant operating manuals.
  • Prior experience of preparing and presenting training materials to multi-disciplined groups.
  • Proficient with use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Hands-on experience of Distributed Control Systems.
