Job Description – Applications Specialist
Department: Information Technology
Reporting to (Job Title): IT Manager

Overall Purpose of Role: The Applications Specialist oversees the development, implementation, and support of all digital applications (including web / mobile applications) being used within CSSI. The Applications Specialist is responsible for the governance of the applications, its cyclical releases and change processes, as well as business as usual enhancements, ensuring that how we develop the system links with CSSI’s strategy and values. Working proactively with the business leads using the applications to ensure optimized user experience and system fit for CSSI’s business processes.
The role includes working closely with the Systems and Applications leads of CSSI’s partner brands within Carnival, ensuring that CSSI’s Applications landscape is aligned with the partner brands long term vision and roadmap for change. To influence, support and provide challenges to stakeholders of the applications’ functionality and constraints, ensuring that requests are value based and that any change or continuous improvement is in line with and / or managed through continuous improvement framework.
Be CSSI’s Lead whilst engaging with stakeholders and vendors / service providers, ensuring that CSSI’s interests are in the forefront and center of all decisions.
Main Activities and Responsibilities Leadership and Engagement
• Provide support and guidance to the SMEs to facilitate them in incident management, managing system upgrades, project planning, post implementation reviews as well as all aspects of UAT ensuring a positive relationship with all stakeholders.
• Actively engage with application service providers and application leads within the company / Carnival group, seeking opportunities to align and share best practice.
• Collaborate with IT and business owners regarding scoping of any enhancements / development in business applications and its successful implementation. Technical and Professional
• To manage the development and implementation of applications within CSSI and where required across associated operational departments within Carnival brands
• Influence strategic development of applications ensuring they align with CSSI’s goals.
• Ensure procedures are compliant with good operating practices, as well as SOX controls and relevant legislation. Planning
• Responsible for planning and coordinating releases of applications at CSSI.
• Responsible for reviewing change requests and incidents, ensuring that these are planned in based on business priorities.
• Communicate changes to all stakeholders in a timely manner, ensuring that change roll-outs in applications do not adversely impact BAU business processes.
• Responsible for incident management process for business applications. Ensure that incidents are reviewed for frequency, cause and trends to further drive improvements in applications.
• Ensure that SMEs are appropriately trained, escalations to 3rd parties are appropriate, monitored and cost effective.
• Manage communications during major incidents.
• Regularly review application performance. Also review requirements of SMEs, developing a plan to address any gaps, where required. Governance
• Responsible for governance of all applications for new releases, incident management, change requests and RACI.
• Be the custodian of source codes (where applicable), ensuring that the source codes are kept secure and accessed by only authorized personnel.
• Lead audits of applications, internal and external, ensuring that they meet company policies and legislation.
Formal Education & Certification
• Four-year college diploma or university degree (desired in computer science or computer applications), and 4+ years equivalent work experience. Knowledge & Experience
• Min 4 years direct experience in enterprise-level application management.
• Proven technical project management experience.
• Proven experience in overseeing the linking of cross-functional applications between disparate business units and systems.
• Experience with business and technical requirements analysis, business process modelling/mapping and methodology development, and data mapping.
• Technically fluent in at least one programming language.
• Extensive knowledge of relational database design and management techniques (example Microsoft SQL Server/Snowflake/BOXI).
• Acquaintance to API protocols and schemas such as WebHooks, JSONs.
• Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies.
• Understanding of end-user needs and requirements.
• Excellent understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives. Personal Attributes

• Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
• Able to conduct research into application integration issues and products.
• Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
• Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
• Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
• Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws. Other Features of Job (travel, hours of work, working conditions etc.):
• On call as and when required
• Work timings aligned to shifts which may change and may also include work over weekends according to client requirements.
