Primary Skill: System Database Administrator (DBA) - Progress Database

Grade and Experience: 5 - 8 YRS

Notice Period: Immediate - 15 days joiners

Location: Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai, Coimbatore, Noida


Job Summary: As a System Database Administrator (DBA) specializing in Progress Database, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and performance optimization of Progress Database systems within our organization. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability, availability, and security of our Progress Database environment to support our business operations effectively.


Key Responsibilities:


Database Design and Implementation:

  • Design and implement Progress Database systems based on business requirements and best practices.
  • Install, configure, and upgrade Progress Database software and related tools.


Database Maintenance and Performance Optimization:

  • Perform regular database maintenance tasks such as backup and recovery, database tuning, and optimization.
  • Monitor database performance and proactively identify and address performance issues.
  • Implement and maintain database security policies and procedures to ensure data integrity and confidentiality.


Database Administration:

  • Create and manage database users, roles, permissions, and privileges.
  • Manage database storage, including capacity planning and allocation.
  • Troubleshoot database issues and coordinate with vendors for problem resolution when necessary.


High Availability and Disaster Recovery:

  • Implement and maintain high availability solutions such as database clustering and replication.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans and procedures for Progress Database systems.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Document database configurations, procedures, and best practices.
  • Generate regular reports on database performance, usage, and capacity.


Collaboration and Support:

  • Collaborate with application developers, system administrators, and other IT teams to ensure seamless integration of Progress Database systems with other IT infrastructure components.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to internal teams on database-related issues.


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator with a focus on Progress Database.
  • In-depth knowledge of Progress Database architecture, configuration, and administration.
  • Strong understanding of database security, performance tuning, and optimization techniques.
  • Proficiency in Unix Scripting and database scripting languages.
  • Experience with database backup and recovery procedures.
  • Familiarity with high availability and disaster recovery solutions for Progress Database.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Progress Database certifications (e.g., Progress Certified Database Administrator).
  • OpenEdge 10.x, Operational knowledge of database backup / replication softwares like EMC, Veritas etc is a plus.
  • Knowledge of cloud database services and technologies (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database).
  • Familiarity with database monitoring and management tools.
