Purpose:

APM Terminals Pipavav (GPPL) is undertaking a significant capital expansion project at its fully developed port on the west coast of Gujarat. The purpose of the role is to drive all functions related to Projects Management & Execution, Facility Management which include civil, mechanical, electrical and automation from conception to commissioning to meet the growth and development goals of the Port.

The port is investing over US$ 90 million in a new liquid berth project in 2023. In addition to this there are further investments that will be initiated to strategically implement the decarbonisation, automation and future development of the port.

Our ability to build a multi commodity port along with it’s expansion, supports India’s growing logistics infrastructure, providing end to end connectivity with the broader A.P. Møller – Mærsk (APMM) business.

We are looking for a strong project management leader, who can successfully deliver this large-scale and complex capital infrastructure project in line with our broader project and business requirements. The successful candidate will draw upon significant project experience to lead a high-performing project team working across several construction, automation, equipment, and integration workstreams. The role spans the project lifecycle from design, procurement, construction/assembly, commissioning, integration, and handover. Day to day, this role will require the use of sound business judgement to set direction and establish priorities, whilst maintaining commitment to the broader APMT “Way of Working” and governance structure which safeguards our values. Excellent leadership skills are a prerequisite, and we are looking for candidates with a particular focus on collaboration, inspiring and fostering cooperation and teamwork across a technically and culturally diverse business and group of stakeholders. The ideal candidate should be able to implement the key strategic decisions for the Port and be a forward thinker who is strong in planning - to allow the project and broader business to manage risk, issues, or decision points well in advance of any impact. Planning and proactiveness is key to the success of this project execution and expansion. The role will be based in Pipavav, Amreli District, Gujarat, India.

Principal Accountabilities :

Team, Stakeholders & Communication

Define, recruit, and maintain the required project organization for successful delivery Provide direction and leadership to the project team and support to successfully deliver their responsibilities Facilitate and make sure the project team have close collaboration and alignment with the existing terminal organization teams to deliver the project and minimize disruption to existing operations. Accountable for coordination and collaboration between the Project, Global HQ & Functions and the existing Container Terminal Business. Key to this is leveraging the business’ expertise, minimizing silos and safeguarding the delivery of an integrated expansion to the existing business, without disruption to business and agreed timelines. Proactively manage key project stakeholders in close collaboration with the COO (who will focus on broader Business stakeholders)

Delivery

Delivery of the project in accordance with the agreed project Success Criteria, focusing on time, budget, scope, risk, safety, and handover and “Go-Live” criteria Continuous opportunity identification and optimization of project scope, timeline, and budget to re-align (if necessary) with changing Business Value Drivers or to deliver improved performance against the current project Success Criteria Selection, negotiation & agreements with consultants, suppliers & contractors for the project, and be accountable for execution & maintenance of service levels as agreed.

Project Management

Creation, maintenance, implementation and obtaining approval of the Project Management Plan for how your proposed Project outputs will deliver the agreed Business Case benefits. Commitment to using APMT project management procedures and standards for all areas of project controls and in line with the current project governance structure. Creation of project specific management plans for each area (e.g., risk, cost, procurement, change, contract, schedule, scope, etc.) and proactively managing these through the project lifecycle. Ongoing project reporting and performance management (using existing APMT tools) including both leading and lagging indicators Has accountability for overall project or multiple work streams including project plan, scope, cost, work schedule, design and build, and contractual deliverables. Carries out detailed requirements analysis and sizing of project team. Manages multiple workstreams, sub-projects and project resources including subcontractors. Establishes and manages effective communications with the business sponsor. Ensures delivery to the project plan and budget. Provides full project reporting. Has leadership responsibility for project team. May own methodologies of strategy and deployment.

Reporting and Scope:

This role will have direct responsibility for a project team at the peak of the project. This excludes any third parties or indirect internal stakeholders.

The position reports to the Managing Director with a functional reporting into the APM Terminals Project Execution function (Program Lead).

Authority & Business Interaction:

Authority

Upon appointment, authority for the Project Budget, including Allowances will be delegated from the business to this role. The project contingency budget (based on calculated risk exposure) remains the authority of the project Steering Committee which includes the Project Sponsor. The Project governance structure includes a responsibility matrix across 26 functional business categories with a focus on building the asset, the business, values, and compliance, and managing the project.

Business Contacts

The role requires close collaboration with the various business and HQ functions in APMT including, substantial interaction with the existing APMT business organization. Work & business contacts: Project Execution Team, APM Terminals HQ Project Steering Committee, GPPL Contractors, suppliers, and other vendors. Relevant local authorities and stakeholders. Coordination with other Projects within the APMT portfolio or Business Functions as part of the broader continuous learning of the wider Project Execution Community.

Leadership & Management Experiences

A track record of demonstrating strong leadership including, motivating, influencing, conflict management and inspiring, at a team level and to broader business peers A track record of upholding key personal and business values and demonstrating relevant behaviours to support this across a range of management duties both internally and externally, to individuals and to a broader team and the business Experience of successfully completing international assignments at a leadership level Demonstratable experience of problem solving in a variety of situations from day-to-day to more complex and structured challenges to the project or business Pre-requisite of advanced verbal and written communications skills in English. Knowledge of Hindi and Gujarati would be an advantage, but are not essential

Technical & Project Experiences

Experience of successfully delivering projects which include of the following work packages:Automation ProductsIT Infrastructure & SystemsConstruction (Civil & Structural)Equipment Testing & Overall IntegrationIndustrial and Administration Buildings Experience of successful project management delivery of large-scale (> $150M construction cost) and complex capital infrastructure projects, preferably in the transports and logistics sector Knowledge and understanding of the Indian logistics industry – including liquid, container and RoRo business Experience of port projects or port maintenance will carry additional weight First-hand experience in the use and critical review of project management tools across a range of areas including (but not limited to); project management plan (PMP), risk, change, contracts, schedule, requirements, assumptions, performance. Experience of complex stakeholder management both internally and externally Experience across a range of Contract forms for equipment, plant, civil works, consultancy services.

Qualifications

Qualified with an advanced Project, Program or Portfolio Management qualification, for example, ChPP (Association for Project Management (APM)), PMP (Project Management Institute (PMI)) or equivalent Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from an accredited international university Engineering degree and masters in structural or automation from a recognized university
