Role Overview:
The Policy Development Specialist will play a critical role in shaping and implementing cyber security policies as part of the Secure by Design initiative within the Cyber Resilience Programme. This individual will be responsible for developing, reviewing, and updating policies, ensuring they align with both the strategic objectives of the Defence organisation and broader government cyber security guidelines.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
· Policy Development:
o Lead the creation and revision of cyber security policies, standards, and guidelines.
o Ensure policies are aligned with the Secure by Design objectives and broader Defence strategy.
o Research and integrate industry best practices and regulatory requirements into policy development.
· Stakeholder Engagement:
o Engage with key stakeholders, including technical teams, senior leadership, and external partners, to gather input and feedback on policy requirements.
o Facilitate workshops and discussions to ensure comprehensive understanding and acceptance of policies.
· Compliance and Assurance:
o Ensure policies comply with relevant legal, regulatory, and organisational standards, including those set by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and Cabinet Office.
o Support compliance activities by providing policy interpretation and guidance to various teams.
· Documentation and Communication:
o Prepare detailed policy documents, including policy statements, procedures, and supporting documentation.
o Communicate policy changes and updates effectively across the organisation.
o Develop training and awareness materials to ensure proper understanding and implementation of policies.
·Continuous Improvement:
o Monitor the effectiveness of existing policies and recommend improvements based on feedback, emerging threats, and changes in the regulatory environment.
o Stay current with evolving cyber security trends and best practices to ensure policies remain relevant and effective.
·Education and Experience:
o Bachelor’s degree in Information Security, Cyber Security, Public Policy, or related field.
o Minimum of 5 years’ experience in policy development within a cyber security or defence environment.
· Technical Skills:
o Strong understanding of cyber security principles, frameworks, and standards (e.g., NIST, ISO/IEC 27001).
o Proficiency in developing policy documents, procedures, and compliance reports.
o Familiarity with legal and regulatory requirements related to cyber security (e.g., GDPR, Cyber Essentials).
· Interpersonal Skills:
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
o Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders.
o Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
· Certifications:
o Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CRISC are highly desirable.
· Security Clearance:
o SC (Security Check) clearance is mandatory. Applicants must have current SC clearance or be eligible to obtain it.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
· Previous experience working within Defence organisations or government sectors.
· Familiarity with MOD cyber assurance processes and governance structures.
· Experience in risk management and compliance.
· Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
· Strong project management skills with experience in both Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
