About the Role: As a Lead Statutory Specialist – Statutory Support Group, you will contribute day-to-day specialist knowledge relating to statutory requirements which provide commercially focussed support to internal and external clients. You will determine solutions for problems, where the parameters are not well defined and where previous experience does not provide any precedent. The Role  Provide statutory technical support to personnel in Fleet Services, Marine & Offshore business and ship operators. This includes guidance on the completion of statutory certificates, and ongoing review and update of the Survey Procedures Manual. Assist in the development of training courses and workshops relevant to statutory surveys and reporting. Contribute to the development of Statutory Notices, Practices and Procedures. Audit / endorse survey Reports, including the assignment of corrective actions for the global surveyor network. Train and develop team members and departmental visitors from LR offices globally; presenting internal and external training courses on specialist area of statutory services and mentoring new starters. Take responsibility for the pre-delivery certificate check project. Take responsibility for the maintenance of the Forms2 Guidance and Example certificates and records. Make suggestions to improve service delivery effectiveness through changes to processes or work scope such that it leads to a reduction in appraisal effort (where applicable) Perform complex assessments and provide specialist advice for service delivery, research or development work within agreed broad parameters that include budget constraints and contractual requirements. Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards. Pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness. Mentor / coach other employees, as appropriate, and disseminate information to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application. Make recommendations based on internal / external client feedback to assist in service delivery improvement and to help build the business. Produce the deliverable within the agreed broad parameters in an appropriate format and take responsibility to review other employee’s work as appropriate. Discuss / present the deliverable with the internal / external client up to senior level and be able to suggest alternative solutions where appropriate. Undertake administration as required in line with current processes and procedures. What you bring Knowledge of marine classification and statutory certification commensurate with practical experience of surveys or statutory plan approval of a wide variety of ship types. A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years programme) or Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship’s officer. Membership of an appropriate professional institution. Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status or working towards these qualifications. A minimum of 5 years specialist statutory approval experience, or 5 years as a Classification field surveyor undertaking statutory surveys. Thorough knowledge and understanding of marine classification processes and procedures. A good understanding of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) and how it fits into the regulatory development regime.
