Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Grade 3 Mental Health Social Workers to join the team at Northern Psychiatric Units- Ward 7 and Ward 8. About Northern Health: Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north. Services are provided through our five main campuses: Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Centre, and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park and Coburg. About Mental Health Division: Northern Health is the third largest mental health service in Victoria Northern. Within the Mental Health Division, we pride ourselves on providing high quality mental health services to people living in the northern regions of Melbourne, and work in a collaborative way with consumers and carers based on recovery principles. We aim to provide strong clinical leadership to support all staff in the provision of professional treatment and care by our integrated community teams, inpatient, and residential services. About the Role: This Senior Social Worker role is based across two adult acute mental health units, which provide recovery focussed, trauma informed care for consumers aged between 18- 64, who are in need of acute support to make their next steps forward in their mental health journey. This position is located at The Northern Hospital, and the two mental health units are located directly next door to one another- Ward 8 is a mixed gender unit and Ward 7 is a Women’s service. As part of the multidisciplinary team, the Social Worker will provide professional social work services, including accommodation referrals and assistance, psychosocial assessment, assistance with payments and Centrelink, social case work, discharge planning, work with families and carers, and community liaison work, while gaining specialist skills and experience in assessment, acute treatment and support and other interventions for people with mental health concerns and their family/carers. This role is available on a full time, fixed term basis until March 2026. To be successful in this role you will have: An Approved degree in Social Work and eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers 3 years of relevant experience Y ou will have the ability to: Work collaboratively with other members of the multidisciplinary team, to provide social work interventions, to consumers and their families and/or carers. Provide specialist consultations, assessments and evidence based social work interventions to assist in better outcomes for consumers and carers. Provide effective leadership to the social work and other allied health staff and within the NPU executive. Maintain accurate written and electronic documentation and records of progress of consumers, interventions and services provided to consumers, their families/carers. Participate in and contribute to generic/social work practised based and service orientated research, evaluation and audits as required. Foster positive relationships with all stakeholders. Work collaboratively with Non-Government organisations, GP’s, NDIS, private psychiatrists and others in the provision of quality care for clients. Actively participate in managerial and discipline specific supervision. Attend and participate in team meetings including those with a managerial, discipline and/or clinical focus. Next Steps . . .
