Consultant - Risk and Controls (Commercial Mortgages)

Job Description: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant specializing in Risk and Controls to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in risk management, with specific expertise in the commercial mortgages domain . This individual will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of Risk Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) frameworks tailored to our commercial mortgage operations, ensuring effective risk identification, assessment, and mitigation strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand business objectives, regulatory requirements, and risk appetite within the commercial mortgages domain.
Design and implement robust RCSA frameworks and methodologies to assess and manage risks associated with commercial mortgage operations.
Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify key risk areas, control deficiencies, and emerging risks within the commercial mortgages portfolio.
Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies, controls, and action plans to address identified risks and enhance overall risk management effectiveness.
Provide guidance and support to business units in implementing risk management best practices and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Monitor and report on key risk indicators (KRIs) and control metrics to senior management, highlighting areas of concern and recommending corrective actions as necessary.
Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory developments, and emerging risks impacting the commercial mortgages sector, and incorporate relevant insights into risk management practices.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including legal, compliance, finance, and operations, to integrate risk management considerations into business processes and decision-making.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or related field. Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, CFA, FRM) preferred.
5-12 years of experience in risk management, with a focus on commercial mortgages or real estate finance.
Proven track record of developing and implementing RCSA frameworks, risk assessments, and control solutions within the financial services industry.
In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices related to commercial mortgages risk management (e.g., Basel III, Dodd-Frank, etc.).
Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex risks and develop pragmatic solutions to mitigate them.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Demonstrated project management experience, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and deliver results within established timelines.
Certifications such as Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) are a plus.
