JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Head - Engineering
Business: Tube Investments of India (TII)
Reports To: Division Head - TPI
Job Purpose
The position holder is responsible to design, develop, monitor & control the Manufacturing Engineering & Technology (MET) and NPD function w.r.t to Process, Product and Production Engineering and Product Development and to drive Operational Excellence to meet customer requirement on consistent basis.
Tube Products of India was established in 1955, in collaboration with Tube Products (Old Bury) Limited-UK, as a measure of backward integration with the bicycles plant. In 1959, Tube Investments of India (TII) was formed by merging TI Cycles of India and Tube Products of India.
Today, TPI is the most preferred supplier of precision tubes, Electric Resistance Welded (ERW) and Cold Drawn Welded (CDW), to major automotive companies in India and abroad. TPI is India's undisputed market leader in CDW tubes for the Automotive industry. It also has significant market presence in power plants, boiler, textile machinery, general engineering. It is the Market leader in Telescopic Front Fork Inner tubes and Cylinder bore tubes for shock absorber and gas spring applications, Propeller shaft tubes for Automotive segment. Other Speciality products include Rear Axle Tubes, Side Impact Beams, Tie Rods, Drag links, Heavy thick steering shafts and Hydraulic Cylinder tubes.
TPI has integrated manufacturing facilities at Chennai (Two tubes plants and one strips plant at Avadi), Shirwal & Mohali. These plants conform to international standards and achieve operational excellence through TPM. Thiruthani plant manufactures large diameter, high wall cold drawn & welded tubes. TPI has distribution centres across India, which ensures timely service to the customer’s daily requirements.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
▪ Manage new grade development by discussion and concluding Technical Delivery Condition of new grades /New source. Validation of new grades and new source through process qualification studies and capability studies – Regular coordination with Steel suppliers – JSW/Tata and AMNS.
▪ Analysis and technical assessment of defects of raw material by metallurgical analysis and interaction with technical team of RM supplier to initiate corrective and preventive action in steel making process and explore possibility of RM import substitution.
▪ Effectiveness monitoring of corrective action by continuous tracking and sharing of RM quality levels to ensure raw material quality.
▪ Coordinate with RM sourcing team to develop foreign steel suppliers with required grades for domestic consumption.
▪ Lead, manage and guide process improvement/ Process change by scrutinizing, validating the new process. New technology identification and validation of process.
▪ Coordinate for Customer/ Field /warranty complaints resolution by Failure analysis, process improvement and PPM reduction through corrective and preventive actions .
▪ Project Management : Monitor and Lead team on streamlining and monitoring business critical projects at TPI in order to increase the capacity, capability and efficiency levels and Cost reduction.
▪ New Process ( Technology ) and Product Management : Lead, manage and guide process development for new products by 1. Process design for new enquiry. 2. Contract review with customer 3. New routing approval 4. Process design for Value engineering requirement of customer and validation in internal processes. 5. Interaction with R&D for functional test and specific test requirement . 6. Constant interaction with customer to update technology / process improvement . ( Techno meet) to meet customer requirement
Experience
• 15 – 20 years of experience in product and process development in steel manufacturing industry/Automative industry using flat steel as RM input.
• Experience in Metallurgical examination and its interpretation and in steel heat treatment and process
Education / Preferred Qualifications
• B.Tech/M.Tech in Metallurgy
