The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the quality of our cast parts by performing a variety of inspections and tests. This role is critical to maintaining our high standards for product quality and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Dimensional Inspection: Use a variety of measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, CMM, gauges) to perform dimensional checks on cast parts to ensure they meet engineering specifications and blueprints.
- Visual Inspection: Conduct thorough visual inspections for defects such as porosity, cracks, inclusions, surface finish issues, and dimensional non-conformities.
- Process Monitoring: Monitor casting processes and report any deviations or issues that could affect product quality.
- Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Perform or assist with various NDT methods such as Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI), Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI), or Ultrasonic Testing (UT) to detect internal and surface defects. (Specific NDT methods can be tailored based on the company's needs.)
- Documentation and Reporting: Accurately document all inspection results, create quality reports, and maintain detailed records of defects and non-conforming products.
- Root Cause Analysis: Participate in the investigation and analysis of quality issues, helping to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA): Work with production and engineering teams to implement and verify corrective and preventive actions to resolve quality problems.
- Equipment Calibration: Assist in the calibration and maintenance of quality control equipment to ensure accuracy.
- Supplier Quality: May be involved in the inspection of incoming raw materials or finished products from suppliers.
- Safety: Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures in a manufacturing environment.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience: 2-3 years of direct experience in quality control, inspection, or a similar role within a foundry, casting, or heavy manufacturing environment.
- Technical Knowledge: Foundational understanding of casting processes (e.g., sand casting, investment casting, die casting) and the common defects associated with them.
- Blueprint Reading: Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications (including GD&T is a plus).
- Measurement Tools: Proficient with a wide range of inspection and measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges). Experience with CMM operation is a significant advantage.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and propose solutions.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail is essential for identifying subtle defects.
- Communication: Good verbal and written communication skills to effectively report findings and collaborate with team members.
